We asked for a quote on redoing our smallish two car garage. The owner talked with us about the project, and came to our house a couple of times to have in-person discussions. The quote came in over our expectations, and we decided to do the garage in wallboard, rather than slatwall. His e-mail reply was "Wow, after all the work I put in for your benefit, I'm shocked! No words can express my dissatisfaction with you and your wife!"

Then I received another grenade lobbed in through my e-mail. In its entirety, it reads as follows:

"I get very annoyed when people ave UNREALISTIC expectations of cost and ultimately WASTE my time! I was completely transparent from the beginning and explained the many challenges in your garage. Also, worked hard to give you exactly what you said you wanted... You just don't want to make the investment. The truth is you have never made any investment in the garage. So why now change..."

And another:

"A second trip to your home, a second redesign of garage was unnecessary if you intended to CHEAP out! Your last email is complete BS. You simply don't respect me, my company or my time. I'm NOT retired looking for ways to FILL IN my day!!!!"

I don't expect this type of response from any business, even after not being awarded a contract. I can't comment on my personal experience with a completed project, since we didn't retain him.
