My father is currently receiving care from Parkview Hospice. So far the nurses, social workers, and chaplain (Karen) have been wonderful. Today, however, we've definitely hit a snag that has my family very upset and concerned.
My father came home from the hospital to his beloved reclining chair, with the assurance from multiple Hospice staff members that we could get a hospital bed for him as soon as we felt it necessary. As his condition deteriorates, however, he is less and less able to hold himself upright in his recliner. This is causing severe muscle spasms in his neck/back, as well as pressure and skin breakdown on his sacrum. He needs pain medication every 4 hours to try to control this discomfort. He has become immobile and we cannot move him on our own. Getting him upstairs to his own bed is impossible.
I contacted PH yesterday (7/7) and requested a hospital bed, explaining that my father is in a lot of pain and needs to be able lay down. I was assured the bed would be delivered today (7/8). Wrong. As the day has worn on I've called to check on the delivery process, and have been reassured that the bed would indeed arrive later this evening. Now, at 9 pm, we are explaining to our sick, weary father that he will have to endure another night in his chair.
Please don't promise sick patients and their families assistance that you can't deliver. This is cruel.

Parkview Hospice has totally changed my view of the word “hospice”. I thought hospice meant near immediate death. But, they educated me and taught me that it means “comfort”, for as long as the person is in the program. Once I got each of my parents into the program, they didn’t need any outside physician, only the programs physician. I cannot speak enough good things about Laura Bowman, the nurse taking care of each of my parents. She was sweet, funny and full of energy! They loved her; we all did! The nurse that came out once in the middle of the night was kind and efficient, giving us medicine that she had to stop and pick up. After I apologized for calling in the middle of the night, she said”I love what I do. Don’t take that away from me.” Even the hospice nurse, Ashla, that came out after each parent died in my home 64 days apart, was so sweet. She listened to stories of my parents and asked questions and seemed very interested in their story. God bless Parkview Hospice and the nurses that work there. They are doing such a hard job that not many could do!

Although many of the nurses were wonderful, my husband's main nurse, Jenn Aker was the best. Wesley always spoke highly of her and she became part of the family in the month Wesley was in hospice care. She showed him much love and care. Although my beloved husband passed Monday, she took so much time comforting me and our son. She will never be forgotten for she is greatly appreciated and loved by our family. Thank you Ms Jenn for everything!!!

Nurse Marcie Spencer is a true angel!
Words cannot fully express the gratitude I feel for our Parkview Hospice nurse, Marcie Spencer. During one of the most heartbreaking times in our lives, Marci showed up with unwavering compassion, skill, and support. She was always available — answering every call and text — and never once made us feel like a burden.
My loved one was in a deplorable facility at his most vulnerable, and it was Marci who helped us move him to The Cedars in Leo, ensuring he received the care he deserved. She went above and beyond in every way, not just as a nurse, but as a human being. She treated us like family, and I will never forget her kindness and strength. Parkview is incredibly lucky to have her — and so were we.

Parkview hospice took care of my mom, Ruby and myself for her last few months. Every person that came to the house was excellent, caring, respectful and concerned for my mom's comfort and concern for my well being also. I felt like friends or family helping, not just people doing a job. Kaz and Sharon were the main medical personnel and we both loved them. Thank you for everything ❤️
