The first location was in the basement of the founder’s house. Soon, class sizes grew, and the basement was no longer able to accommodate all the students. Brain Child classes were moved to the Lake City Community Center. This was not a permanent location since the rooms were rented on a use-by-use basis. Brain Child moved into its current location in 2008. Lake City operates three days a week: Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. Many parents enroll their children at Brain Child to help prepare them for the Seattle Public School District’s gifted program. Seattle Public Schools offer various programs designed to provide advanced curricula for students from elementary to high school. Formerly known as APP (Accelerated Progress Program), Highly Capable Cohort (HCC) provides a rigorous curriculum that challenges students to study two grade levels ahead of general education. Students who do not qualify for HCC, but are highly capable students may join Spectrum. The Spectrum program was designed for students who perform above average for their grade level, and it may require more advanced work to remain engaged. Spectrum students study one grade level ahead of general education. Student applications for consideration in these programs must be submitted in fall; please contact Seattle Public Schools if you would like to enroll. Brain Child offers Early Learners Math and English to help students be eligible for these programs. Read more
