House built 1912. I needed my chimney rebuilt, tuck pointing in various areas around the house and deteriorated bricks needed to be replaced. I did some research on the work needed (right outside temp for brick work, mortar type, brick type, etc). I had about 5 quotes mostly from last fall. I chose this company partly because they called me to find out if the work was done already. The only company to remember my house. Another reason I chose this company is because Sam was honest with me. He was not the cheapest of the 5 quotes but my house is not the easiest to work on either. I thought Sam was very fair and his employees were hardworking professionals. Well worth the money. Chimney looks proper, bricks match very well, mortar matches perfectly.

Of the three chimneys repairs estimates requested from contractors, Sam provided the most detailed explanation of work involved, after assessing the two chimneys closely. He climbed up to my steep roof and took pictures to show where the damage was. His estimate was very average but I felt that anyone who would take the time to inspect my chimneys up close would do a good job. He and his two assistant workers were prompt, polite and professional. The repairs and new caps on the chimneys look good from the ground. I am confident that if there is ever a problem related to his work on my chimneys, I can rely on Sam to come and fix. Highly recommended!

Sam was contacted as a result from a referral from Oakville based company. Sam and an assistant attended at my home, appraised the work to be done and had his staff perform the work shortly thereafter. The chimney needed eight courses of brick and was repaired by extremely qualified personnel. Cement block parging was required for another area on a walkout from the basement and along the side of the garage. The block was sanded and parged. Once again the work was expertly done and in a timely manner. Clean up was done and the job was completed over a two day period. Bottom line...the work was performed by qualified personnel, the job site was left clean and the price for the job was very reasonable in fact it was a win-win for everyone.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Mike Brown Contracting for any residential masonry or cement work.

My wife and I first met Sam during the restoration of our first home. We didn't know a lot about bricks or mortar at the time. Sam took the time to explain what was best for our specific situation and actually saved us money by steering us away from an unnecessary pricey "solution" I was willing to finance. Sam wasn't the cheapest quote we received but he took the time to make sure we got it right - no shortcuts! We ended up selling our home and because of Sam's work and ability to color match the mortar, we sold it above market value! After moving to Cambridge we called Sam for a referral but he said he would come to Cambridge to give us a quote. He discounted the quote because we were already a repeat customer! Sam has helped us with a few crises, and has always been incredibly reliable. We have always been satisfied with the work - he is serious, honest, and thinks carefully about what solution makes the most sense. This time, he completed the work ahead of schedule, and seems to have resolved a leak that 3 other people over the past 12 years have claimed to fix but never managed to get rid of. He's also timely and responsible to a stunning degree for the business. But my loyalty to him comes largely from the time this past winter when we had a little emergency, and I couldn't find any one else to help. Sam was off on vacation, but texted me several times a day with questions and advice, and arranged to come to my house the day after he got back from vacation; he was waiting in front of my house before I even got home from work. He's the first person I will turn to the next time I need anything done on our house.

This is being written 6 years from the time the roof was installed. The roofing material that Sam used is rubber base wide material called EPDM. We had major wind weather conditions that was interfered by wild animals trying to find new home. One corner was damaged and my eaves cleaning guy mentioned that. I emailed Sam pictures of the damage and asked about repairing same. He promptly responded, via email, and within few days the matter was dealt with. He didn’t charge any extra even the matter was an act of god and is not coveted by warranty. It took them about 20 minutes to bring peace into my life as I was so worried about this issue. In reality I never expected a contractor to come back years after completing a job. I was wrong

I was thoroughly satisfied with my dealings with Sam and his guys. Sam explained step by step what has to be done to correct the leak in my flat garage roof. The job was done on August 29th and everything was handled in a professional manner from start to finish. Sam and his crew completed the job as promised. Sam is hard working and very patient with redoing our flat roof at front porch of house, he scrubbed exceed part of flat roof ( the black thing) carefully off the metal edge and cleaned everything nicely. Mike is nice he came by quickly to inspect the part that we weren't happy and came out with a solution. so as the guys who made the metal parts they are nice too and new metal edge looks good . Unfortunately our experience has been horrible to say the least with this company particularly Sam.
We agreed with Sam of Sam and Crew Exteriors to remove the old roof and install a new roof on our home . It was agreed that he will install high quality of roof with metal valleys and HD grade shingles for which he provided the weblink for specifications. He also stated that these shingles have 4 layers of glue and will have 5 years warranty. The specifications referred mention that these shingles can withstands wind speeds of up to 210 km/hr. The new roof was installed by Sam in July 2016. In first week of May 2018 there was a wind storm in Toronto area of reported winds up to 160 km/hr. During this storm some shingles blew off our roof. We contacted Sam to come and have a look at the damage but he refused to come terming it as an act of God. When we told him that we reserve our right to challenge him in court he in fact made some racial comments ( like you sound like people off the boat) and said that judge will laugh at us if we went to the court. Following this we contacted various roofers to repair the damage, who said that this is a messy job with numerous problems with installation and we will have to replace the whole roof. We then contacted a qualified roof inspector to inspect the roof who gave us a report pointing out a number of installation discrepancies.
1 - Old roof is not completely removed.
2 - Three different types and colors of shingles are installed
3 - Metal valleys were not installed as agreed. To this Sam argued that closed valleys is a more modern way and in fact these are better. In fact these valleys improperly installed show caulking at shingles in attempt to prevent water ingress. Which is against the standard installation practice.
3 - The installation has several other deficiencies from the standard practice of recommended installation norms as pointed out in the report.
In conclusion according to the certified inspector :
THIS INSTALLATION IS ENTIRELY DEFICIENT AND COULD BE CLASSED AS FRAUDULENT.
Be careful in dealing with this company.

This is being written 4 years after the initial work was done. The roofing material that Sam had installed, due to very windy weather conditions and wild animal interference, had began to peel away from the roof. I emailed him pictures of the damage and asked about repairing same. He promptly responded, via email, and within a week or two arrived to repair the problem. Throughout the intervening time he was constantly in touch with us as to his upcoming arrival.
On the scheduled date he arrived at the house in the mid morning. He and his crew set to work and when done suggested some ways to combat the animal interference.
It speaks volumes, in my book, about a contractor's sense of customer service when he is quick to resolve a problem four years after the initial work had been completed.
We are very happy with Sam's professionalism in resolving this matter. We would not hesitate to recommend Sam and Crew to anyone in need of exterior work and in particular, roof work.

We had an emergency and needed our roof fixed ASAP. We were terrified a contractor was going to take us through the ringer. Not one, but two different people we know that don't know each other, recommended Sam & Crew. They both said they're down to Earth people who are really honest.
Everything they said is true. These guys gave us an honest assessment quickly and got the work done fast without taking every dime we have. This group has enough business and they're worried about a good reputation. Other contractors don't have enough business and they try to take all of people's money.

I called and was able to speak to Sam. He's very knowledgeable and we chatted for quite some time. I had him come out and he was able to walk me through everything. We decided to go ahead and they were able to start quickly. I know I harassed them to no end with my questions, but the crew was very patient with me. They built me a beautiful new fence. My wife was so worried it wouldn't look good. It looks great! I learned a lot. They're very knowledgeable. I'm going to have them out to do some concrete work next month. These guys know just about everything about exterior home repair and they gave me some great money saving tips. We had Sam and Crew out to our home for a new fence build. While they were here, they noticed that a tree had been hit by lightning during a recent storm. My wife and I didn't even notice it. If Sam and Crew didn't point that out when they were here, it would've cost us a fortune. They're skilled and have years and years of experience in a ton of exterior home repair services in Toronto. An employee recommended Sam and Crew to repair my chimney with a cracked concrete cap. I got an answer on like the second or third ring. The lady was really nice and got me set up for an estimate quickly. My wife was home when they came for the estimate. She said she really liked their energy and knowledge. They gave us a few different options. We selected the best option for us and scheduled the work to be done. The crew came out on time and got to work. They were as quiet as they could be and we were really surprised that they were cleaning up when they were done. My wife always says that contractors try to skip out on the clean up. I found Sam and Crew through N49 where they have great reviews. I visited their website and saw they offer tree cutting. I contacted them and let them know a large limb was about to fall on my house. They rushed over as soon as they could and took care of it. I'm thankful they were able to come and I'm interested in some of their other repair services as well. We requested that Sam and Crew come out to do some outer home repairs because several neighbors had used them. HE seems to be the go-to guy for the whole neighborhood. First we needed a chimney repair. Once we saw the level of professionalism from the crew, we hired them for a few other tasks. We had a skylight that needed repairs and a retaining wall that was cracked. We've had nothing but great experiences working with them and they have the best price in town, while doing quality work. We'd definitely recommend them and tell anyone else not to even waste their time on other estimates. This crew is the best overall.

We had Sam and Crew out to our home for a new fence build. While they were here, they noticed that a tree had been hit by lightning during a recent storm. My wife and I didn't even notice it. If Sam and Crew didn't point that out when they were here, it would've cost us a fortune. They're skilled and have years and years of experience in a ton of exterior home repair services in Toronto. I'm recommending them to all my friends and family. Even if you don't think you have a problem, you should have them come take a look.

My family had Sam and Crew out to repair a retaining wall after a large storm blew in and uprooted a large tree. They worked quickly and built a wall that was better than what we started with. I know this new retaining wall will last for years and I will call Sam and Crew in the future. It's amazing how much experience they have in different exterior home repair tasks. An employee recommended Sam and Crew to repair my chimney with a cracked concrete cap. I got an answer on like the second or third ring. The lady was really nice and got me set up for an estimate quickly. My wife was home when they came for the estimate. She said she really liked their energy and knowledge. They gave us a few different options. We selected the best option for us and scheduled the work to be done. The crew came out on time and got to work. They were as quiet as they could be and we were really surprised that they were cleaning up when they were done. My wife always says that contractors try to skip out on the clean up. The work was completed at a very high skill level and we're happy to have had them out.

Contacted Sam about a basement leak. They gave me the best estimate and seemed to know a lot about it. I'm glad I chose them. Work was done quickly and my basement is dry again. They are coming out to take a look at my fence next week.

Sam and Crew came out and re-did our porch. They installed a concrete porch with flagstones. It's beautiful. They've increased the value of our home and added major curb appeal. We're really glad we made the investment and know we'll get it back x ten when we sell our home.

I found Sam and Crew through N49 where they have great reviews. I visited their website and saw they offer tree cutting. I contacted them and let them know a large limb was about to fall on my house. They rushed over as soon as they could and took care of it. I'm thankful they were able to come and I'm interested in some of their other repair services as well. Let's just say I have their number saved in my phone now.

We requested that Sam and Crew come out to do some outer home repairs because several neighbors had used them. HE seems to be the go-to guy for the whole neighborhood. First we needed a chimney repair. Once we saw the level of professionalism from the crew, we hired them for a few other tasks. We had a skylight that needed repairs and a retaining wall that was cracked. We've had nothing but great experiences working with them and they have the best price in town, while doing quality work. We'd definitely recommend them and tell anyone else not to even waste their time on other estimates. This crew is the best overall.
