Old National Bank once stood out as the rare regional bank that didn’t act like the big, impersonal institutions. For several years, we truly loved banking with them — the experience felt personal, efficient, and rooted in the community.

Unfortunately, those days are long gone.

Since the departure of one of their key regional private bankers, the bank has felt disorganized, bogged down in bureaucracy, and lacking any clear identity. Even a few employees have quietly acknowledged that there's little vision coming from the top. It feels like the bank can’t decide whether it wants to scale like a major regional player or return to the personalized service that once made it great.

If you’re looking for a bank that knows your name, values long-term relationships, and treats you like more than a number, this probably isn’t the bank for you. Lexington has no shortage of small and mid-sized banks that offer just that — and it’s telling that Old National has only one branch here.

And if you're looking for a mortgage? Run the other way. The red tape and inefficiencies will test your patience at every turn.

Trying to resolve an issue took over an hour on the phone. When John came on the line, he purposely hung up on me. When I called the 800 # again, John refused to take my call bc I'm a lesbian. So John discriminated against me. I know this bc I overheard their whispering. I will be moving my loan to my credit union bc they are professional, kind & courteous, and non-discriminatory.

They say they are a top bank but it took 3 hours on hold just to be hung up on and me emailing the branch manager to be able to get ahold of someone and they claim to work with people and "Life happens" they do not work with you even if a situation is beyond your control I understand it is a bank and there are rules policies and procedures but if only 1 person get to make a decision for you and when asked for another request or another person make that decision you are told no I'm just glad I do not house all my money at this bank. I financed at the dealership and this was the bank I was given so it wasn't my choice to use them in the beginning.

Matt Walters is the best mortgage officer in Lexington. We’ve done two loans with him and he’s beaten everyone else each time, plus he’s been the most responsive mortgage officer I’ve ever dealt with. Process was as painless as getting a mortgage can be, and he’s always looked out for our best interests.
