My family stayed in room 539. It was perfect! We could see the Washington Monument lit up and we could stay inside the cool room to watch the 4th of July fireworks. The room was very clean. The staff from housekeeping, front desk, restaurant staff, etc. were all very warm and friendly. A lot of them would high-five our kids (they dressed up/painted up for the 4th and walked around outside like Rocky). The only thing I wish different would be for the hotel to have a pool. But it is basically close to most things, so there was plenty to keep our kids busy. The kids (both boys aged 5 and 8) loved going back to the hotel and didn't complain at all about the hotel. It was a wonderful experience. I definitely recommend! Oh, also, the restaurant downstairs had a superb breakfast buffet to purchase. It was yummy and had plenty to choose from. The staff at the Market were friendly and they had the best iced mocha cafes.

I ordered DoorDash because the hotel was not serving food at the time, and despite offering to tip extra, I was told my order could not be brought to me. What was most disappointing was that the poor experience extended far beyond that issue. From the front desk staff all the way to management, the customer service was consistently rude and unhelpful.

As a Platinum member, I travel frequently and have certain expectations for hospitality and professionalism. Unfortunately, this stay fell far below those standards. The staff came across as dismissive and unappreciative of their guests, and the overall experience left a very negative impression.

I would strongly encourage others to consider staying elsewhere and using their loyalty points at a property that values its guests. I will not be returning to this hotel.I ordered DoorDash because the hotel was not serving food at the time, and despite offering to tip extra, I was told my order could not be brought to me. The JW Marriott is conveniently located near the White House and Capitol Hill. As a Bonvy Ambassador elite, I was given a king bed room on the floor with the executive lounge. Although not spacious, the room was clean and functional. The lounge provided a convenient option for beverages and a light breakfast.

If you are tied to Bonvoy, this is a decent hotel option in this area, but doesn't feel like it lives up to the JW brand luxury versus being branded just a regular Marriott. If you look beyond Bonvoy, there are many true luxury hotels in this vacinity.

While the hotel stay itself was pleasant, my post-stay customer service experience has not lived up to Marriott's brand promise.

I filed a complaint on May 22, 2026, regarding multiple billing and promotional discrepancies, and have since made 2 phone calls, submitted 2 online complaints, and exchanged numerous emails seeking resolution. While some charges were corrected, 24 days later, several items remain unresolved, including the destination fee and parking discrepancy, a missing food and beverage credit, and confirmation of promised Bonvoy promotional credits for early checkout.

Complete resolution has not been achieved despite repeated follow-up. Guests should not have to spend nearly a month pursuing complete responses.

These concerns are not isolated. The District of Columbia Attorney General filed suit against Marriott for deceptive resort fee practices, alleging consumers were misled about the true price of hotel rooms, including destination fees presented as government-imposed charges.

For a premium brand, greater transparency, accountability, and responsiveness would be expected.

My wife and I recently stayed at the JW Marriott Washington, DC and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is hard to beat, with easy access to many of the city's top attractions, including the White House, Smithsonian museums, and numerous monuments. Being able to walk to so many iconic sites made our visit much more enjoyable and convenient.

The hotel was clean and well-maintained throughout and the staff was very friendly, professional and helpful. From check-in to departure, everyone we encountered provided excellent service and made us feel welcome.

One of the things I appreciated most was how quiet our room was. After spending long days exploring the city, it was nice to return to a peaceful room where we could relax and get a good night's sleep. We also had a room on the southwest side of the hotel, which offered a great view of the Washington Monument and added to the overall experience.

The hotel restaurant was convenient, although I found the prices to be on the high side compared to some nearby options. That said, the daily $17.50 destination charge credit helped to offset some of the cost and made dining at the hotel a little easier to justify.

Overall, the JW Marriott Washington, DC offers an excellent combination of location, cleanliness, friendly service, and comfortable accommodations. If you're looking for a well-located hotel that puts you within easy reach of Washington's most popular attractions, this is a great choice. I would happily stay here again on a future visit.

Effing resort fees. I booked with points and STILL was hit with resort fees.

Resort fees and no pool!

Most outlets in the room didn’t have power either.

Good location, though.

Assured me I would not be charged a cancellation fee. Charged me anyway. Lied to me and claimed they had documentation I was informed of the fee but then stopped responding when I requested a copy of that record. Dishonest front desk.

The staff in this hotel are wonderful! From the valet to the front desk to the housekeeping top-notch! That being said, the rooms are in massive need of renovation. The carpets are old. And so are the bathrooms. This isn’t like any JW out there. The lounge if you could even call it that was terrible small and again in need of a Reno Breakfast selection 👎🏾
Four days I didn’t even bother eating upstairs I ordered Uber Eats. We did have a beautiful view of the monument. And the room itself was very big. The little store in the hotel the staff needs training. Very combative over them messing up my coffee order and never smile never say good morning! Shocking for Marriott! But the location is great for the museums!

You get an email threatening you with needing to show work ID however Marriott knows how you booked room and knows you booked via your companies portal. The email lies by saying your company requires it - not true.

Upon check in staff is nasty about it

Elevators are extremely do use - you can’t get to your room right away you have to wait until the key system syncs with elevators

It’s overall a bad experience much better places to stay in the district without all the harassment

The best about the hotel is the location.
We loved being close to all the beautiful buildings and monuments.
The check in was slow and unfair.
It was a big line, one of the check in ladies came to our line and took people behind us to go to a different window, and they got service before us.
The room was dirty.
I called downstairs, no one came. Then after dinner I asked someone again and then two ladies came, took pictures of the hair in the bathtub and toilet, stated that our room wasn’t clean!
How in the world the employees could check new guests in without checking if the room was clean or not, that’s beyond me.
Then, the room was small.
Two double beds for 3 people are not enough.
My son fell from the bed, because it was no room for two on one bed.
No garbage bin was in the bathroom.
The air conditioning was making squeaky and other loud noises every time it started.
And honestly, I didn’t feel appreciated or welcomed.
Lacking customer service big time.

This is a great location right in the middle of all the action. I think it's the closest high-end hotel to Reagan National Airport so getting to and from DCA is easy. Great housekeeping, front desk, and conference center staff. The restaurant and bar have solid and quality food options. Easy walking distance to major tourist locations and the Mall. My only complaint, which is endemic to all Marriott properties, is no Coke products. It's a Pepsi only facility.

This is the third time I have stayed at the JW Washington DC. I was greeted kindly and thanked for being a Bonvoy Gold Elite member. The elevators seemed to have received an upgrade and they are the ones that you put your floor level in outside of the elevator and it tells you which elevator to get in to. Once I got to my room on the 12th floor, I was disappointed to see that there was zero view. This hotel is at the back entrance of the White House and there is always a lot of action with a street view. This could go both ways. There was a State of the Union and from my room, I couldn't hear a thing. Sirens will chirp until 1am on SOTU nights. People were complaining about this. So, if you want a good night sleep without action, ask for one of these rooms without a view. I would have loved to have had a view and would have gladly tolerated the sirens. I will ask next time. It's fascinating to watch from a Birdseye view. Anyway, the hotel itself was okay. Its starting to show wear for a JW. Room service was within 30 minutes. I ordered online. The food was okay. The little giftshop / store is EXTREMELY expensive. I paid $20 for a small box of Tylenol and $14 for half of a chicken wrap that wasn't very good. But they do have a good selection of amenities that you may need while traveling... just be prepared to pay. There is also a CVS not too far. You are paying for the location of this hotel.

What I do want to point out is something that concerns me... almost leading me to rate this stay much lower. I was traveling with a colleague that has (within the last 2 years) developed a severe reaction to shellfish. We went to dinner nearby and came back to hotel around 9:30. She began to swell up and if you have ever had this allergic reaction, you know your mind and body go in to survival / panic mode. Although she didn't order anything with shellfish (obviously), there must have been some cross contamination. When she started to feel the tingle, she realized she did not have any Benadryl. That is not the norm for her. And since this is a newer reaction, they have not prescribed her an epipen yet. She immediately went down to the shoppe to purchase some Benadryl but the shop was closed at 10. It was a few minutes after ten. She went to the front desk, swollen, progressively getting worse and asked if there was ANY WAY to get Benadryl. They said no. Store is closed. She said she was aware of that but she was getting worse and CLEARLY swelling in her face. The lady just looked at her and shrugged. My colleague continued pleading and asked for a manager. Manager came out and went to "try" to get some and came back and said no. Shop is a third party and there was nothing they could do. Not thinking about using her phone to look at a map to try to locate a pharmacy, she asked if there was a CVS nearby or some place to get Benadryl and the lady just shrugged and said she didn't know. Zero attempt to help, zero effort to locate meds, zero suggestion or offer to call 911. Her tongue was swelling and her face was obviously impacted. Someone in our group, staying at another hotel, had Benadryl and was able to get it to her within about 10 minutes. All of this to say, if having a medical emergency, this is not the hotel I would want to be staying at.

We were in town for a vb tournament at the convention center. We could walk there (about 15 mins) from the hotel which was a plus.
This is a great hotel for big gatherings, showers, receptions.. Lots of places to sit and chat throughout the lobby and lower levels. Starbucks, restaurant and gift shop on site. Elevator system is impressive.
Parking is rough if you have an oversized suv. We had to park a few blocks away in a completely different garage.
The hotel room itself was a disappointment. The room we had was tiny with double beds. I can’t believe a luxury hotel doesn’t have queen beds! The room was very clean but we did not have a good nights sleep for the 3 nights we stayed. The lighting wasn’t very good and our room felt dark. The bathroom got so steamy despite short showers. We could hear everything too- people talking loudly and kids running/yelling in the hallways late into the night. The people above us must have been doing gymnastics.
We were really looking forward to this hotel and the room just fell short. I would choose any other room than one with 2 double beds.

I stay at the JW Marriott Washington, D.C. regularly -almost every month- and as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member with 90+ nights per year across many Marriott properties, I can confidently say this hotel consistently delivers an excellent experience.

What truly sets this location apart, though, is the incredible service from the front desk -especially Mr. Luis Yliquin. Time after time, he is outstanding. His professionalism, warmth, efficiency, and genuine care for guests make every stay feel smooth, welcoming, and memorable.

Great hotels are built on great people, and Mr. Luis is truly second to none. He’s a big reason I keep coming back to this JW instead of trying other options in the area. If you’re looking for a hotel where service actually feels personal and consistently excellent, this is the place - and if you’re lucky enough to be helped by Mr. Luis, you’re in great hands.

I highly recommended the JW Marriott DC!

A very solid choice for anyone visiting Washington, DC. The hotel’s central location is one of its biggest strengths — just steps away from the White House and within easy walking distance of the National Mall, monuments, and museums. It’s ideal for both sightseeing and business travel.

The lobby is modern, elegant, and stylish, creating a great first impression and a comfortable space to meet or relax. Rooms are well maintained and quiet, offering a pleasant retreat after a busy day in the city.

The staff deserves special recognition — consistently friendly, professional, and helpful, making guests feel welcome from check-in to departure. Service throughout the hotel is efficient and attentive without being intrusive.

Overall, JW Marriott Washington, DC delivers a high standard of comfort, excellent service, and an unbeatable location. A reliable and refined option in the heart of the capital.

We had an amazing stay, and the front desk gentleman who checked us in was so nice! Our monument room was nicely appointed with a king bed. The shower was particularly good, with the handle on one side so you don’t get wet turning it on. The location was awesome- we saw a show at the National Theater and it was a very short walk. We did park our car in a nearby garage on the same block to avoid the very high valet charge. I paid around $70 for a three day parking instead of the 72 plus 18% tax per day. The location is amazing if you want to visit the Washington Monument or Smithsonians. The Capitol was about a 30 minute walk and most everything else was 15. We will absolutely be back!

As a Marriott Ambassador member, I expect the best. I've given Marriott my time and money, and having rude and incompetent reception was appalling. I booked a room for 1 night and requested a balcony. The checkin clerk stated for an additional $250 I could have a balcony room. WTH. Isnt an Ambassador given an uograde complementary? Then, I asked to look at my current room and he refused to hold my luggage, stated I had to bring it with me with the bellman. The room was small, dark and depressing. I left with not even an apology or solution. Bad bad bad customer service. Having stayed at 20 or so Marriotts in the area, this one topped it all for rude staff, unacommodating suggestions and terrible rooms. Shame on you JW.

Stayed five nights in December 2025 in a king room with a monument view. Check-in was quick in the late afternoon and staff were friendly. The room was fine but clearly dated, with older finishes that could use a refresh. Bed was comfortable, HVAC worked well, and the shower hardware was decent, but hot water took too long to arrive and the temperature kept slipping cool mid-shower.

Noise levels were low. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. I used both the downstairs restaurant and the lobby bar; food and drinks were good, but the bar did not feel well managed. The location is excellent for the White House, National Mall, and Metro. Marriott Bonvoy classifies JW Marriott as a Luxury brand, but this stay felt more in line with Marriott’s Premium portfolio and would be better positioned there.

Booking Marriott can be tough. When you book by brand, you expect certain things but know that it could be drastically different depending on the owner. This JW is fine. The lobby is nice, the rooms (if you get a monument view) have great views, the service is good. That said, the rooms are dated, relatively small, with small outdated bathrooms. They got the job done, just not at the JW standard. That said, the location is incredible. You are walkable to the mall, all the monuments, and some great restaurants. If you want an upscale feel for a cocktail, just go across to the Willard which is more of a premium feel.

Internet is super spotty. The TV in our room did not work half of the time and my phone had a hard time getting any kind of service. The M club is among one of the worst ones out there it is super small and the coffee machine only offers sweet coffee options. For such a large hotel, they really need to find another spot for the end club and make it as nice as the one at the Marquis. The lady cleaning our room on the 14th floor was amazing and that was the highlight of our stay.

The staff is very friendly and welcoming. However, the hotel is tired, the rooms are tiny and poorly appointed, the lounge is undersized and the service is lacking. I tried to place a room service order for lunch and no one picked up the phone after trying five times over the course of 90 minutes. I would have preferred the consistency of a Courtyard over this. I don’t plan on staying here again.

Parking is SUPER EXPENSIVE and although there's a lot for guests, it was full. Walls in just rooms are thin - the person's snoring in the adjacent room kept me awake. The electrical outlets next to the bed need replacing because the charging block wouldn't stay in.

The staff was extremely nice and helpful.

Stayed two nights at the JW Marriott in DC. The hotel itself was quite nice, the staff was pleasant, but the parking was a total rip-off. My car sat in the garage for less than 48 hours—less than two full days—and I was billed for 72 hours. Checked in Monday at 5:30 PM, pulled out Wednesday at 4:15 PM, yet somehow that equals three full days of charges.

That “extra” $85 left a bad taste. For a premium hotel, I expected fair and transparent billing, not a parking scheme that punishes guests. Great rooms, but beware of the garage—because that’s what you’ll remember when you check out.

Read a lot of negative reviews and I have to say I don't get it. OK, it's not a Ritz or a Four Seasons, but I checked and Four Seasons was 2.5x the price. Disclosure: I'm not a Marriott member, so I don't have a slate of other Marriotts to compare to.

Here's my take: The room was very clean, extremely quiet, in a great location, and for me the value was very good. (My other recent stay was an incredibly overpriced resort where you were being overcharged at every turn). Very comfortable bed. Things you no longer get at other hotels, even at a moderate quality level, like full size pillows, nightly housekeeping. Nice things to get when there is no guarantee of getting them anymore. (I mean yes I do expect them here but you can't take anything for granted these days).

The not so greats: Parking price (I actually don't need it or shop for it) seems absurd, but I don't really know. The lack of late night food options probably the worst part, but I knew beforehand, it wasn't an issue. I did say the room was very quiet, except the solenoid valve on the A/C creaked every time the unit shut off. (Mild annoyance). One last thing, the hallways were a bit dark. Could have been brighter.

The unknowns: Not sure if/when card access is turned on for the elevators. I assume it's on later at night, but it was never on that I noticed, but I was not up late (maybe 9:30 was the latest I went upstairs).

Secret tip, the entrance can be crazy during check out/check in. Take a left down the stairs once you exit and go out to Penn. Ave to catch a cab/uber.

Overall very pleased with my stay here.

The JW is in a great location within walking distance to many of DC's attractions. The rooms, although smaller, are comfortable and the bed was decent. The hotel's breakfast restaurant and bar/grill were very good. Housekeeping staff were super friendly. The room cost is higher than some DC locations, but worth the price. The Marriott Lounge for Bonvoy Elite members was closed due to renovations, but we received multiple perks in lieu of it being closed. Overall, the interior and exterior were very clean and the noise level was low.
