WORTHLESS WARRANTY BY MAIBEC
When exploring options for our cottage siding we were leaning towards a maintenance free siding but saw that Maibec offered a 50 year warranty on their wood products. On this basis, we bought this Maibec product and had our contractor finish the entire exterior of the cottage with an 8” shiplap wooden siding. About ten years after it was installed, the wood started to shrink and no longer overlapped so water would get through the boards instead of running down the boards as intended.
We talked to a friendly sales person from Maibec at a cottage show and after explaining the problem he referred us to the warranty department. What we now realize is that the warranty department is there to deny claims and never intended to honour the warranty. Needless to say, the sales person no longer answered our inquiries.
The first part of the process involved the warranty person asking for all of the bills for the materials and contractor who installed the product, which we provided. The next stage involved a request by Maibec for photos of the issue, which were provided but apparently not good enough and more photos were requested. Further photos were sent and the Maibec warranty person indicated that the Maibec warranty does not cover a shifting of the siding. I didn’t understand this since the siding had shrunk and had not shifted and asked for clarification since this didn’t make any sense. The representative did not respond directly to my inquiry and simply said that the siding had shifted and the warranty was void. I still didn’t understand and asked for further clarification and was told the warranty was void and the file was closed at Maibec.
The Maibec site states that an 8” siding board has a true dimension of 7”, part of which is indented for an overlap. Photos are attached which clearly indicate a shrinkage of the siding by 3/16” to 6 13/16” and that the boards no longer overlap. To have a warranty voided on an excuse which is clearly false and just made up and to have our comments dismissed on this basis is unfair and frankly insulting.
PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND DO NOT BUY THIS SUBSTANDARD MAIBEC WOOD SIDING PRODUCT WITH A WORTHLESS WARRANTY!

**Disappointing Experience with Canexel Wood Siding by Maibec**
In the fall of 2022, we installed Canexel wood siding by Maibec for a customer, hoping to provide a durable and aesthetically pleasing solution. However, within a relatively short period, issues began to arise, particularly with the trims around windows, doors, and corners that face the West, East, and South. These areas started to flake, which was not only unsightly but also concerning for the long-term durability of the siding.
Our attempts to address these issues with Maibec through their warranty claim process were met with frustration and disappointment. Initially, our communication via email was ignored, requiring us to follow up persistently. When we finally received a response, the proposed resolution fell far short of our expectations. Maibec offered to reimburse us for the stain needed to color-match and re-stain the affected boards, along with a nominal reimbursement for labor. However, this solution does not adequately address the underlying problem.
One of the main issues we encountered is that the trim boards are dual-colored, and achieving a seamless match with the original finish is nearly impossible. This raises concerns about the aesthetic integrity of the siding over time, especially as the sun continues to degrade the original finish. Additionally, some boards have developed a glue-like substance on their surface, which further complicates the restoration process and undermines the appearance of the siding.
Equally disappointing was the lack of support from Maibec in resolving these issues promptly and effectively. Despite efforts from our supplier to intervene on our behalf, communication from Maibec has been minimal, if not non-existent, exacerbating our frustration with their customer service.
In conclusion, we regret choosing Canexel wood siding by Maibec for this project. The product has not proven durable under typical environmental conditions, particularly sunlight exposure, and the customer service experience has been deeply unsatisfactory. Moving forward, we cannot recommend Maibec products to future customers seeking reliable wood siding solutions. This experience underscores the importance of both product quality and responsive customer support in our commitment to delivering superior service and outcomes to our clients.

I am hesitant to write this negative review, but at this point feel no other choice and others need to be aware of the quality problems associated with Maibec wood siding produced in the early 2020s.
I built a home in 2021 and used Miabec wood siding. Almost immediately I started noticing large vertical cracks and extreme bowing causing the battens to come off.
I’ll let the pictures of the removed siding speak for themselves.
The most frustrating thing has been trying to get any support from Maibec. Only after I threatened (and now filed) a lawsuit did they start to engage, which I expect will be their response in the comments section. However after inspecting the wood Maibec is now claiming the defects are expected as it is a natural product and because I chose a dark colour. Given I used the same Maibec product on a previous home without any issues, I am do not accepting Maibec’s argument.
Based on the other reviews, I don’t seem to be alone, and I encourage others who are negatively impacted to speak up as this seems to be the only way to get Maibec to listen.

In 2021, I bought over $40k of horizontal cedar siding from Maibec. The siding was supposed to be predried and pre-stained thus preventing any expansion or contraction. My contractor has been watching it for over a year since it was installed by him and the contraction and cracking is significant and continues to occur. And some cracks seem to have been pre-existing as he said there was wood-filler in them to hide the cracks. Images below show the extent of the cracks within the boards and the amount of contraction that has occurred since the installation. Not at all impressed by the poor quality of the siding nor the response my contractor got when Maibec was contacted regarding these issues.

Buyer beware. After 6 years this is what you can expect to start happening. (Professionally installed Canexcel) Really unfortunate, It's a beautiful looking siding when it's new.
No warranty support. After initial contact for warranty service I was simply ignored.
Choose wisely, you've been warned.....
