After completing his orthopedic residency in Los Angeles and hand fellowship in San Diego, he and his family returned to Texas in 1995, and he practiced orthopedics in Arlington for 20 years.<br /> <br /> A native of Fredericksburg, Dr. Phillips developed his interest in medicine while assisting his father, a local veterinarian, with his animal patients. He played football in both high school and college and was a free agent with the Baltimore Colts.
