We had used Benchmark 4 times for our residence and my mother's house. Good product, skilled carpet layers.
Then a few years ago we did our house again and it was a disaster.
The problems were not just a matter of opinion or pickyness.
We had carpet lifting in several places within days.
A section of the living room measured 5 inches up the baseboard.
The staircase was frightening and at the bottom the carpet on the riser when straight from the edge of the tread to the foyer floor without coming near the wood.
I wrote 5 pages of complaints and sent them in.
The excuses began-
you are protected by the guarantee on the back of the bill.
There was no guarantee on my copy. A sample invoice was sent to me and there was no guarantee on that copy.
The layers returned and said- it was dark and we could not see
you bought poor carpet
you tore it up to cause trouble
I messed up the job because my wife is ill
the carpet business is terrible now not worth our time
you did not say that you wanted the doors to be able to close over the carpet
the carpet lifting when I vacuumed near the baseboard was my fault- why didn't I clean like all other women in Canada, I was asked, by getting on my knees and using a brush.
They fixed a few problems and then left. Why come to correct a few things?
Thank you for reading my rant. I was inspired to search for complaints against the company because a new "lifting" has started in a corner.
