Bowman's Insurance Agency began in 1914 when local banker Eugene W Bowman was issued a license to transact business with Phoenix Insurance Company of Hartford, Connecticut. While little is known about the scope of Eugene's insurance… Bowman's Insurance Agency began in 1914 when local banker Eugene W Bowman was issued a license to transact business with Phoenix Insurance Company of Hartford, Connecticut. The original shop was set up in the Palmyra Bank Building photo . While little is known about the scope of Eugene's insurance dealings during the first few years, we do know the Agency took shape when Eugene's son, William K Bowman, joined the business in or around 1920. Several years later, William's younger Brother Simon joined the business and the partnership of the three Bowmans was formed. Although formally a family partnership, Eugene who was President of Palmyra Bank spent most of his hours transacting bank business and Simon remained mostly in the background throughout his twenty five year tenure. It was Bill Bowman that created the identity of the Agency, guiding the operation for nearly fifty years. In doing so, Bill earned a remarkable reputation, throughout the community, for his generosity and philanthropic nature. Although the agency continues the Bowman name, the last family ownership interest was surrendered in 1970, when Bill passed the agency to employee Dale O Daubert. Dale operated the business as a sole proprietorship until 1984, when the Agency incorporated as Dasher Associates, Inc The name Dasher was derived from the combination of names Dale Daubert and Sherman D Mohnshine, the long-time office manager, who assumed the helm as President, upon Daubert's retirement in 1991 and guided the agency until 2006. Under the thirty six year tenure of Daubert and Mohnshine, the agency realized substantial growth through the purchase of numerous local agencies. In 2000, the agency accepted an invitation to become a franchise partner of the Keystone Insurers Group KIG , a prestigious, multi-state network of independent agencies. Collectively, Keystone's regional offices form the 5th largest, privately owned retail agency in the country. That relationship propelled Bowman's to a position of regional prominence by arming the agency with a broad menu of reliable insurance carriers, exclusive insurance programs, and client resources typically available only through large brokerage firms. In July of 2006, current officers, Jeff Edwards and Cindy Pratt, assumed control of the agency after a collective 28 years of service to the Agency. Jeff and Cindy have been the faces of the Commercial Insurance and Personal Insurance Departments, respectively, since the early 1990s. Over the past four years, the Agency has assembled an all-star cast of experienced staff members who will serve our clients as we enter the next decade.
