Was interesting to come to Florida for vacation and get a tattoo from an artist that’s from my home state. Ron Gray was amazing. Great to talk to and his work was impeccable and efficient. Will return for another from him some other year.

When I was looking to get my first tattoo at 18 years old, I already knew what I wanted, but couldn’t find a shop that treated me more than just a “how fast and how cheap do you want it done” type of customer. I lived in Ocala at the time and had no luck finding a shop I was happy with over there. When I was 19 (almost 20 years old) a friend recommended Willie’s Tropical Tattoo. I had been searching for a good shop for almost 2 years at this point, so the next time I was over in Ormond I stopped by to check it out. When I walked in, the man at the counter greeted me and asked how he could help. I showed him my drawing of what I wanted and the first thing he said to me was, “take a look at our artist’s portfolios and see if any of their work speaks to you first before we get into anything.” Right then I was sold. I didn’t care how much it cost or how long it took, I wanted genuine good quality artwork no matter the cost and for the first time someone actually showed me not only their work, but the work of everyone in the shop. At Willie’s Tropical Tattoo, it wasn’t a competition of who was going to sell me a tattoo first, it was about making sure I was happy with something that was going to be permanent and I’d live with for the rest of my life. I would drive all the way from Ocala and Gainesville when I lived there just to get some ink from Willie’s shop because of how great the shop is, and how professional and friendly the staff always were to me.
I had my first tattoo done at Tropical Tattoo in 2015 by Ron Gray. When getting my first tattoo, the owner Willie came in and saw that I was getting a 7 hour thigh piece for my first tattoo and he told me that I was a badass and gave me a free tropical tattoo t-shirt. Willie fully solidified for me that this was going to be the shop I always went to for my tattoos, no matter how far away I lived. All of my tattoos over the past 10 years have been from Willie’s shop, specifically from Ron and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
