We were renting a unit since April of last year. Our contract renewed the 15th of each month. Last week, we emptied our unit on the 5th and we contacted the gentleman who we sent payment to each month and inquired if we could get a prorated refund seeing we were out early. We know how hard it is to get a unit and knew he’d have no trouble renting it out but he said he didn’t do prorated refunds and the contract was until the 15th so he was unable to rent it till the end of the contract and added that if we had anything to store during that time it was still ours. This weekend we went up to the unit cause we had taken our lock off that day we emptied it hoping to replenish some of the money but once discovering there was no refund and we were liable for the unit till the 15th we wanted to put the lock back on so no one could vandalize it and leave us held responsible. To our surprise, the unit had a lock on it. I called to see what was on the go thinking maybe they put a lock on for the same reason but I was informed they rented is out right away. I requested a refund for the remainder of the contract seeing he was able to fill it right away but was denied. At no point were we informed that it wasn’t our’s anymore and that it was rented. I expressed how I felt not being reimbursed seemed unethical but he still refused to give us a refund despite starting a contract with a new client. So word to the wise, if you are paying for a unit and empty it before the end of the contract, keep your lock on it unless you want them to reap the benefits as they will not refund you even with someone else occupying the unit. Very unethically ran business.
