He and his father started their first business, Hughes Exterminating, in Sarasota in 1979. Hughes handled all aspects of pest control - household, commercial, termites. In 1991, shortly before the sale of Hughes, Mark branched out to concentrate solely on lawn and plant work. Turfmaster has grown to 16 routes and 26 employees. In August of 1995, Terry Crews came on board as Mark's partner to start Turfmaster Home & Lawn Services, which handles the interior pest control side of the business.
