Our care has lacked compassion, and we have felt rushed at all appointments.

We have seen Dr. Bauer a few times at Children’s for initial consultations, and unfortunately the experiences have not been positive. She tends to rush through the visits, is dismissive of parent concerns, and has given us inaccurate information more than once.

Most recently, she told our 9-year-old that it was very unlikely he would need surgery and that he would probably only be out for about 4 weeks. She really emphasized that, which of course made him feel better in the moment. But it turned out he did need surgery, and his recovery ended up being closer to 10 weeks. It was very disappointing to watch him go from relieved and encouraged to let down and frustrated.

Another confusing part is that Dr. Bauer is not the surgeon actually performing the procedures, yet she still gives families very specific predictions and recommendations. This mismatch between what she says and what the operating surgeon later explains makes it hard to trust the information we’re given.

For a physician working with children, it’s important to be both kind and careful with words. Dismissing parent input while also giving false reassurance to a child only makes the process harder when the truth comes out. I truly hope Children’s takes a closer look at how she handles families so that other kids don’t have to go through the same experience.

Dr. Bauer was excellent in treating our ten year old internationally top ten ranked race car/karting driver for a displaced wrist fracture. The appointment was prompt, efficient and everyone from the front desk attendant, Shemiah, to nurse Staci, to the xray tech, to Dr. Bauer herself, who was very thorough, articulate and knowledgeable with respect to our son’s treatment plan. Additionally, the ortho techs, John, and Lorena, were great in placing the cast on my son with minimal pain to his wrist and comprehensive instructions regarding caring for the cast. They had our young son laughing in a situation where most kids would be crying. A top notch team all the way around. In and out with a perfect cast and happy son in just under two hours from check in to checkout! Highly recommend for any professional athlete when their professional future is on the line where literally millions of dollars and a career is at stake.

Wow! Doctor Kathryn Leigh Bauer is unbelievable, she is the most amazing Doctor that I've ever met, she took the time to explain every detail before, during and after she performed surgery on my grandson shoulder. She never rushed, and she made sure every question we had was answered. Also her Assistant, along with all others Nurses, Anethesiaoligist, and everyone that was there on August 31st, 2021 that was a part of the surgery team was so wonderful and caring, they made Me and my Grandson feel at ease. Also the hospital is very beautiful! Nice and very clean.

My son had knee injury and was treated by Dr. Bauer. She took time to explain the procedure and answered all of our questions and concerns. We never felt rushed and she spent time to walk us through the whole treatment plan. We felt very comfortable with her and she alleviated our anxieties. She is an amazing surgeon and we are so glad to have her to take care of our child.
