My husband and i have a special sentimental relationship to the zoo. We first went as a date when we first started dating, and now we go at least once a year as a fun summer thing to do. The best days to go are when it is cooler outside and overcast, get some amazing photos and the animals are more active when it's cool out.
Right now they have an anamatronics exhibit of life size dianosaurs that is preaty cool but my favorite is still the tigers.

...particularly the giraffe one. That's cute! Can't say the same for that green creepy crawly thingy.

I went to the zoo on a first date with an ex, too! Its a great date for sure, but the animals in cages are sure to reduce me to tears at least once...should there really be giraffes in canada?

Another hot spot we intend to see this summer. we want to spend a night so we can hit the zoo first thing in the morning rather than a long drive down in the morning. Any good spots you know to stay at???
