At Elmira, our connections to antique appliances date back three generations. Years ago, my grandfathers hardware store supplied woodburning cookstove parts to local Mennonites. My father began producing cookstoves in the 1970s, using designs from the 1800s. In the eighties he introduced gas and… Read more

As a owner of these $15,000 appliances, never again! Rust bubbles erupting on the paint surfaces and numerous other quality issues. No help from Manufacture other then to say its my fault for living on the coast. Now in for servicing and repair depot say these are very poor quality and the manufacture is only interested is the sale ,not the long term customer satisfaction. Stay away!!

For over 20 years I have been using their appliances. I started with the antique stove which I upgraded because I liked it so much. I added the fridge and dishwasher to complete the look. They are quality appliances that I have been fully satisfied with.

I love the look of my Northstar appliances. I have stove, range hood and fridge in robin's egg blue. I have had no issue with the stovetop and oven. These are Whirlpool/Amana that have been fitted out to look older. I think the materials are decent quality and everything works just as it should - until it doesn't. This is the second time my fridge has needed repairs in five years. The first time the freezer drawer didn't sit on the tracks properly and caused frost. This time the compressor needs to be replaced at a cost of over 900 CAD with labour and taxes. I think we got a lemon. I've never dealt directly with Elmira so can't comment on customer service. I am disappointed, though, that their product doesn't run as good as it looks.

Heather, please call us at 800-295-8498. We go above and beyond the base warranty on the fridge. We can't cover the labour after the first year, but we may be able to help you with the cost of the compressor.

PS: I have to add that after Elmira Stove Works reached out to me (see comments) they were able to refund me for the faulty compressor when I found the paperwork that showed my purchase date and proved the problem has occurred within the period of the warranty. During the whole transaction, I had to move and the cheque they sent me was returned to them. So they tracked me down again and made sure I got the cheque at my new address. So I can now report that their customer service is stellar and the fridge runs great again.

We finally updated our Elmira Antique range last year, after 23 years of use. The only service issue we had in all of that time was replacing an $80 oven element, which took fifteen minutes and was easy to do ourselves. It could have kept on going, but we were attracted by some of the new features and options, so we moved from a six-burner cast top with no warming oven to the six-burner smoothtop with the warming oven and more nickel trim. And even better news - we sold the old one online and got half of what we paid for it 23 years ago! Looking forward to 20+ more years of a beautiful Elmira range.

I have read all of the reviews and am saddened by the problems that people have had. My wife and I remodeled our kitchen in 1984 and did so around our Elmira all electric stove we had purchased at a home show in Portland Or. a year earlier. It still works perfectly today, we have had 0 repairs and she uses it every day. The reason I am reading these reviews is she would like to go to a gas cook top and have a larger oven and wanted to know the state of the company. I will be calling the company to review my needs, although based on my last experience, I probably won't need any assistance..........Dick

This is the most beautiful retro stove, and is the focal piece of our kitchen. We have had many compliments on it, but we are not replacing it with another Elmira. Within a year of purchase the electronics went wonky---right in the middle of the cook cycle, the oven would sometimes switch to the self-clean function. The self-clean function would not come on, thank goodness, but the SCO alert came on and the oven would shut itself off. If we didn't watch it carefully, we'd find ourselves with half-cooked dinners. I called the company and found out that the stove would need to be shipped back to the company, repaired, then shipped back to us again at our expense. We live on an island, so buying crating materials, shipping it out by barge and then by truck, and repeating the process would have cost us half what the stove cost to begin with. We were disappointed, but we dealt with the problem by monitoring the cook cycle. We couldn't walk away from it for more than a few minutes while we had something in the oven, because we never knew when it would decide to shut itself off. Also, within five years, I had to stop polishing the chrome because it was so thinly applied that it started peeling off. We used exactly the cleaning materials recommended by the company. We spoke with a friend who also bought the same model at around the same time, and he had the same problems with his. The stovetop works fine and we've never had an issue with any of the burners, but after sixteen years, the true convection function now works only intermittently, the self-clean function doesn't work at all (it doesn't get hot enough any more) and we can't rely on it. We need a new stove. We are reluctant to buy another Elmira because the reviews are still not good. If I had been able to access on-line reviews when I bought the first one, I would likely not have made the purchase. I will miss how great this stove made our kitchen look, but it does not give value for the money.

We sold these souped up Thirlpool products for years and stocked them on our retail floor. We only sold the ones that people liked and wanted, but we also sold a far superior product called Heartland. A far better product and stood behind us so we could stand behind our customers. Never a problem with Heartland we could not handle. Elmira I can tell you were problems a not a very well made product. Dealing with these people all these years, there were two ladies that worked there that were pleasant to deal with, Jean and Liz, they were great and got their jobs done. As far as management, Don was always gone, and Brian (Don;s son) was gone evry time we needed to talk to someone in charge, people that worked for him were always making jokes about him being gone so much to the mountains, and they hired some supposedly big wig that thought he knew retail and managment and wanted to tell us how we were going to run our business & how we were going to price our products. and where we were going to sell them, and what states we were going to sell in. Management started this company and they better look over the hen house before it walks out the door on them. Elmira can not produce parts because they are Whirlpool products and if you order them , they are priced about 5 times what you can get from a local parts house. They stock minimal parts that are needed to repair their products and proof will show some of our customers waited for months to get the correct part needed to repair there product. We had to take the heat on this from the customer, but he had no other way of getting the correct part that they made to go on the Whirlpool product they remodeled to call their product. There Norstar refrigerators, we had several come in and the same problem was wrong with all of them, holes were drilled to hold the door on by elmira and in doing so, they hit the refrigerant lines in the door, causing the refrigrator to leak out the gas and be inoperable. They had us destrouy these units and they replaced them but charged us a ridiculous freight charges to send them to us/ After that we sold no more Northstar Products, again a souped up Whirlpool. Wood stoves, I would diffently look at Heartland by far a unit made from scratch. Check out the OVAL or the SWEETHEART (both made with or without the ewater reservoir). Just beware of Elmira nd check out the Heartland. From a dealer that is now retired after 63 years. We sold these units for some 40 years. We used the Elmira to sell the Heartland, people could see the difference. I can give you a list of names of people to contact, and even a list of people we sold to that bought again from us but bought Heartland. All of these people have given their permission to release their names to help people in making a wrong decision in buying a Elmira over a Heartland. If you need any further help or just want more information from someone that is willing to help, give me a call. 423-358-0307. Our remorse may sound like we are against this company and some of the decisions they tried to make us abide by, but our sales records will show which products we sold the most of. Remorse no, just trying to help you the customer that is needing help in making such a grave decision and financial decision, because it is a lot of money for these products.

Our 14 year old stove quit baking recently. Called Elmira who diagnosed our issue as needing a new ignitor. They shipped out the part with "how to" instructions to replace it. But what they neglected to tell us is that the new ignitors won't fit on the old stoves and that we would need to call an appliance repair man who should be able to modify the new ignitor to make it fit. The owner told us that because our stove was so old, they no longer made the part. GREAT.

Why pay $20 in shipping for a part that weighs less than half a pound, wait over a week for it to arrive, to then pay someone to come to the house to modify the new part to make it work. Should have just called the repair man to begin with.

We purchased an Elmira stove 11 years ago when we built our home. This stove is the most complimented item in our home. We love it! After having owned it approximately 7-8 years, we had several issues. One of our burners quit working along with the entire oven. I was apprehensive since I was dealing with a company that is not even located in the United States. However, my apprehension was unfounded! They answered my call, a technician called me back, they sent me parts, walked us through the fix, and did not stop until it was in 100% working order again! The entire cost of fixing the stove was under $100!! We could not have been happier or treated any better from a store in our own hometown. I would recommend Elmire Stove Works WITHOUT ANY RESERVATIONS!!

Thanks very much. We're happy you're enjoying your stove. We generally use readily available components and, knowing how long our customers like to keep our products, we try to keep them in stock for much longer than other manufacturers. We have some parts that go back 30+ years.

Just received my beautiful retro appliances from Elmira. The hood does not match my stove...least of my problems. The panel for my dishwasher is slightly too long, not allowing the door to open all the way. The panel is sitting in the dining room of my house. My contractor has called numerous time, and although Pauline has responded, Brian, has been lax in getting in touch with a solution to this problem. I have also called, again, Pauline, so nice, but she is apparently the person who runs interference for Brian. So sorry that I spent this money. I could have donated the 10K to my favorite charity, Smile Train, and received more satisfaction. Learned my lesson. Now I will have to find a master carpenter to deal with this. THANKS FOR NOTHING. ENJOY MY $10,000.00! I give you one star for the amazing color...but that is even too much. I really regret this purchase. Hey, forgot to mention that I ordered these appliances in October and they didn't even get here until February! They don't even deserve one star.

I have had an Elmira gas/electric combination stove that I acquired 4yrs ago when I purchased this house. A sparking of the gas ignition would cause the oven and clock to reset with an accompanying noise from the solenoid that locks the oven for cleaning. After having service done a couple of times over the 4 yrs I contacted the Elmira company for help. Liz the first contact for service called in Don for assistance who finally gave me direction to fix the issue. Don and Liz are great but Elmira needs to be more proactive in dealing with their issues with detailed picture/ instructions for repair persons who are intimidated by the custom nature of Elmira. Still the appliance always gets "Oh my look at this" from visitors to our home. So working through the bugs is still worth it to me.

I purchased an Elmira 1956 natural gas retro model. It was delivered chipped and dented; apparently, the top cook unit was not bolted to the oven. The vent cover was missing. Elmira shipped a new cook top and door to the dealer that was installed by the dealer a couple of weeks later. Next day, I realized the burners clicked continuously. A week or so later, the dealer's technicans adjusted them to get rid of clicking . . . which lasted one day. Next day, some clicking came back. After using the stove for the first time after the adjustments, I realized that the flames were too high. Even at "low" the flames were too high; they were more of a medium or medium high flame. Even at LOW, pots boiled over; the days of simmering a pot of soup seemed to be over. I called Elmira as well as the dealer but have had no further response from either. Liz at Elmira is on vacation; the whole place seems to close down when she is gone. Don the Elmira tech guy wasn't much help to me. Hopefully, when Liz gets back she will contact me and the dealer to help get my stove fixed. It's a beautiful stove BUT it's a huge pain. The stove is brand new and it's nothing but problems and more problems.

After being a proud owner of an Elmira StoveWorks stove for 8 years, my stove stopped working. One of my top burners (the large one on the front that I use the most) stopped working, the entire digital control panel went blank and the oven was totally dead. After Reading these reviews on other customers who have had bad experiences with Elmira StoveWorks, I panicked. However, after contacting the company, I was more than pleased. I immediately received an email back from Liz Wilson, who was incredibly helpful. She immediately emailed me with suggestions along with detailed diagrams and instructions to begin finding the source of my problem. She also forwarded my problem to a technician, Don Wilson, who also immediately got in contact with me. He even responded during times that he was not at work, because his emails were sent to him via his cellphone. They both continued to be in contact with me, mailed me parts along with complete instructions, and helped me until my problem was solved! Bottom line is; products will encounter problems, unfortunately that's reality. But the customer service at Elmira StoveWorks through both Liz and Don were wonderful!

When we decided 4 years ago to purchase we had our choice of any stove. We decided on the Elmira Stove because of it's looks. It fit into our 100 year old home. HUGE MISTAKE!!! The oven never worked properly. Completely uneven heating. The company couldn't figure it out but sent us an element to put in ourselves. We had to take off the back of the stove and put it in. The first one was not connected on one side. On the stove top the gas comes out less at high heat than at low. We were told they didn't have a clue what it was (maybe the valve which wasn't covered by ther "warranty." We need to find a technician (1 in the whole Portland area) to take off the stovetop and look (at our expense). As I said, I really regret buying this stove. It's been nothing but a headache from the start.

I have owned a refrigerator from Elmira the last 4 years and it is at this point non-functional.
The company offers no support for their products. They are poorly designed , very expensive and it if breaks you have no options. I regret buying this refrigerator an even after contacting the company and asking for their help I have recieved nothing. You have been warned.
