Baker Food Co-op began over 40 years ago when, in 1976, a small group of people formed a “buying club” to provide for themselves a consistent supply of natural bulk foods at wholesale prices. In 1977 the buying club rented a small building space in downtown Baker City and began doing business as… Baker Food Co-op began over 40 years ago when, in 1976, a small group of people formed a “buying club” to provide for themselves a consistent supply of natural bulk foods at wholesale prices. In 1977 the buying club rented a small building space in downtown Baker City and began doing business as “Greater Baker Foods.” One year later the store moved to Court Street. A few years later they moved to 2816 10th St. and changed their name to “Baker Food Coop”. In 2010, the ever-expanding Co-op, once again, outgrew it’s limited space and moved to 2008 Broadway St. and although now incorporated, and holding monthly board and quarterly membership meetings, the Baker Food Co-op still retains it’s initial integrity of operating under the dedication of it’s working members. With a membership of over 4,000 and more than 100 working members, the Baker Food Co-op continues to enjoy it’s mission in supplying low-cost natural foods to the people of Northeast Oregon.
