We hired Hope construction to redo our garage roof. We were quoted a cost for a 2-day job. They finished in half a day but charged the same amount even though it was done in less than half the time. I was told they don’t break down materials and labour and had to pay full cost. The work was excellent but I feel ripped off for the cost. I’d rate a 5 for work quality but 1 for billing practices, so I settled on 3.

RESPONSE: The project was paused due to unresolved billing discrepancies and communication concerns, not simple “funding circumstances” Financing was not the issue. Clarity and accountability were.
Before any further discussion- I require a transparent and detailed reconciliation of invoices and scope of charges, not to mention how long you held my 14k for?! No response to that??
Timeline – Hope Construction
• August 7, 2025: I paid Hope Construction $14,000 (50% of the quoted renovation cost).
• August 26: I inquired about the contractor having a key. I delivered a key that day, although they already had one.
• September 5: I followed up to ask when work would begin, as I had been told it would start right away.
• September 29: Someone from Hope Construction attended the suite without notice, despite tenants living upstairs. No work was completed.
• October 6: I followed up again regarding a start date (water line replacement, etc.).
• October 16: I was informed they were arranging for a plumber.
• November 5: No work had been completed to this point. They suggested installing a sump pump, which I approved. After installation (which was above the original quote), I issued a cheque for the additional cost.
• November 20: The sewer portion of the project (first phase) was completed. I requested an updated invoice to confirm the project remained on budget. I wrote a cheque for the expense of the sump pump as that was above the quoted price.
• November 26: I again requested an updated invoice/quote but received nothing.
• December 10: Only the water line and sump pump were complete. I was asked to pay 40% to continue the remaining work.
• January 21: I received an email stating I had $10,000 owing for completion of the project. The accompanying explanation of the invoice was extremely convoluted and difficult to follow. I ultimately had to input the breakdown into an AI tool to attempt to interpret it, and even then, the calculations and reasoning remained unclear.
• February 11: I received a text stating my keys were left on the table and to contact them when I was ready to proceed. They stopped work, stating I was unwilling to pay for work that had not yet been completed.
Additional concerns:
• I ordered all bathroom fixtures and arranged delivery.
• I ordered flooring and had to repeatedly request measurements.
• Carpet was removed from the basement without completion of the renovation, leaving the space unfinished while tenants occupy the property.
• My oak dining table was left damaged during the course of the work.
• A brand-new furnace filter was left ruined. (Not that expensive but really?)
• The space was left excessively dusty and unclean following their departure.
• Communication throughout the project was inconsistent, delayed, and lacking clarity. I felt like I was working for them, everything was disorganized.
In total, over 100 days passed with limited progress. However, payment was demanded within 21 days for work that had not yet been completed.
I paid for materials, and under construction holdback rules, I am legally entitled to retain more than 10% if work is incomplete. The contractor was not out-of-pocket for materials.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend or hire this company again.

I am hire hope construction company.I have been waiting 2 months for them to done my jobs . 2 weeks ago they called 2 days before the scheduled start date to inform me their training pulled out. Was told 3 days ago they were to be here today to start, of course they are a no-show and won't respond to text messages. I definitely will not ever use them again and would suggest moving along if you think what they tell you is too good to be true. As it is and they don't back their word. This company all guy don,Jeremy not word . My advise not hire that company work done but so late and work finishing sit sit sit

We hired Hope Construction to finish our basement in 2021. The basement was empty so it was a blank slate that needed everything from framing, insulating, plumbing in a new bathroom and finishing.
We hired them based on their core values, positive reviews, on time quotes and they said they would stay on budget and time. We were promised good communication and a beautiful end product. Unfortunately we had a rough experience and most of it was related to our project manager Jeff.
We are told Jeff is no longer with the company but he represented the company at the time we had the work done and he made our experience a terrible one. He was never wrong - it was always someone else's fault from sub-contractors to technology and everything in between he could not take any responsibility. He estimated 6 weeks for the project but it turned out to be 3+ months. His communication was absolutely terrible and he left us multiple times with sewer backup over the weekend and no one to contact. He promised daily site visits and we were lucky if we saw him once a week. He didn't care about our job and would say anything to get us to leave him alone. He left us with damaged new doors, appliances, cut corners on the job and charged us $1400 for cleaners that did nothing and added scuff marks to all our new baseboards. Although our basement looks good (if you don't look too close) it was ruined by poor communication and terrible project management. We brought up the communication issues multiple times but instead of improving they got worse in an attempt to finish and be rid of us. I feel that if we had not micro-managed the entire project much would have been missed or done incorrectly.
Let's fast forward to 2023 when Jeremy, the owner of hope reached out to discuss what they could do to help resolve our issues. He set us up with their new project manager Don who came to the house and went through the list of issues. The biggest of course was that they installed a small corner showed in the bathroom when we had asked for a 5ft one. Don took notes and promised it would be fixed. I had my doubts after our original experience but hoped he would follow through and he absolutely did! Don's attention to detail and ability to get the job done was a relief. He worked on all the small things and came through fixing the bathroom. They installed a beautiful 5ft tile shower which was better than we had originally asked for and the man who did the work was very detail orientated.
We are now in love with our basement. It took multiple years but it is everything we had always wanted. It is to bad that we had to go through the first round but Don and the team worked hard to make it better and I truly appreciate that.
We currently have one issue outstanding - 3 windows that have a warranty isssue to be addressed. Once this is complete I will be adjusting my rating.

We used Hope Construction for a Reno of our main floor living space. From the get go, we were very impressed with Hope and their staff!! The communication lines were always open and questions answered in a timely manner. They offered suggestions and thoughts but ultimately, allowed us to make the choices that were right for us!! Everyone that entered our home was respectful, friendly and kind and did an amazing job!! We are so in love with our house now!!! Thank you, Hope Construction!!!
