The hotel has a distinctive Southeast Asian-inspired atmosphere, which some guests may enjoy, but personally I felt the concept felt somewhat out of place in Carmel, where the local architecture and character are already so beautiful and unique.

More importantly, I would not consider this property very family-friendly, especially for guests traveling with a baby or stroller. There is no elevator, so carrying a stroller, luggage, and baby up and down the stairs can be quite inconvenient, and we were not offered much assistance with our belongings.

What surprised us most was that one morning our five-month-old baby cried briefly while waiting for his milk—literally for less than a minute—and the manager called our room to comment on the crying. We found that reaction quite unusual and uncomfortable, especially as we have traveled extensively in the U.S. and have never experienced anything similar.

Overall, the property has an interesting design and atmosphere, but for families with young children, I would recommend considering other options in Carmel.

We loved our stay at Tradewinds! We chose an Ocean View King room. The location is great because you’re not right in the middle of the busy part of Carmel but you are in easy walking distance to everything! We enjoyed having breakfast delivered to us each morning and sitting out on the balcony enjoying the view. The room was cozy and welcoming to stay in. It gets a little hot in late August but with the provided fan, we felt great. And you can open windows at night to let the cooler air in. We will definitely be back someday!

Loved the location. Although TradeWinds is a short walk from the main streets, it is still very close to some of the best restaurants north of Ocean Ave and just a few blocks from shopping on Ocean Ave. The staff were friendly, very accommodating and gracious. We enjoyed the continental breakfast options (including fresh berries) delivered to our room and the coffee from Carmel Valley Roasting Co. Loved the third floor suite with the gas fireplace (which was on a timer), two rooms, two tv's, two balconies and a view of the ocean. (Not a grand view, but enough to appreciate it.) We also appreciated the generous sized full bathroom (with jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower) as well as a separate vanity in the adjacent dressing area. There was also a powder room in the room that had the pull-out sofa. (The pull-out sofa served as a comfortable second bed.) Parking was convenient.

We loved our stay at Tradewinds Carmel! I was a little skeptical at first, but from the moment we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised.

One of the first things we appreciated was the complimentary parking, especially in Carmel, where parking can be a challenge. Our room wasn’t quite ready when we arrived, but we were able to park and take a short walk into town for lunch, which worked out perfectly.

The property itself is beautiful, peaceful, and has a wonderful zen-like atmosphere. We stayed in Room #1, which was spacious and featured a balcony overlooking town with a glimpse of the ocean.

One of our favorite touches was the continental breakfast delivered to our room each morning at our chosen time, thoughtfully presented in a charming basket.

The location couldn’t be better. We walked to downtown Carmel, the beach, and were just minutes from the entrance to the 17-Mile Drive.

Overall, it was an excellent stay. The combination of the location, atmosphere, thoughtful amenities, and friendly service made for a memorable experience. We will definitely be back!

We had such a pleasant stay at Tradewinds! Check-in was easy and the room was spacious and clean (loved the fireplace and our balcony!) with relaxing touches like the water fountain and robes. The included breakfast options were great and we appreciated having those delivered to our room before heading out for the day. The staff was kind enough to fill up our water bottles too on multiple occasions. Parking is hit or miss but we always found a spot on the street. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend it!
