Yes: the shop is in a less than savoury part of town, yes: the prices are generally higher than elsewhere, yes: the owner has extremely poor social skills. The other reviews are accurate on these, and if I did not have a long history of patronizing Pendragon (it was my main gaming store for many years as it was easily accessible at a previous location and overall cheaper than the competition) I probably would not have got past these sticking points.

That being said: there is a customer loyalty program which offsets the higher price. John stocks some specialty items which are difficult to find elsewhere (obscure games and rules, an excellent wargame section, great vintage RPG collection). The personality issue is a bit difficult to get past and has pushed me to other shops in the past but I genuinely believe he means well, and just comes off as rude and brusque. I can't really explain why, but I just keep getting pulled back.

I have been to this store many times, because I live close and I am a gamer. I have to say John has the WORST salesmanship of anyone I have ever dealt with. He retells this story of how someone came in and bought something and said they were going to make a ton of money reselling on e-bay, but it's untrue, you can post it at one price on e-bay and never sell it or post it for bids and gamble on the sale price, he just tells that story to excuse his high prices. He will mock you if you mention store-to-store price comparing. He can be sarcastic, condescending, and has even made insulting slurs he didn't think I caught. He is a gamer and an owner but has no idea how to treat people. You take your pride in his hands by entering his store. I have given him many chances and will never go back. I don't even recommend going there to see what games are out these days, it is NOT worth the risk; there are plenty of other stores in Winnipeg.

If you want to be treated like a thief from the moment you walk in, then Pendragon games is the place for you!
If however, you want good service, a friendly and welcoming environment, then I suggest you go elsewhere.
John and Linda have clearly, been in the business FAR too long and it shows. They have lost any patience for customers and they've alienated most of their suppliers as well.
Trust me, go elsewhere.

I use to love this store but i'll have to say John is a jerk and needs to retire or get a life. I hadnt been there in years since they moved to the scary end of the city and happend to be waiting for a bus right there.
I noticed they were selling cards i havent been able to find anywhere so poped in, there were some give aways in front so took a look grabed a couple and was gonna look around then John came running to the front and told me to drop the free stuff and get out like WTF kinda way is that to run a business??? ill never go back.

I dont want to be negative, but the guy I saw working there when I went to buy a game, he wasnt too friendly, and I didnt like his attitude.

They have some neat stuff there and like other reviwers mentioned, lots and lots of cards, especially for MTG.

But I would probably recommend trying out a different store if you dont like them much personality wise.

Very open concept store.. kind of cluttered but they have A LOT of different things. The owners are really friendly/weird/old. Depending on what you play, they give free things sometimes like cards. I buy cards.. they are kind of overpriced but eh. I live close to the shop so it's fine by me. Everyone should check out this store.

The Pendragon is a different place to shop for games and models and other knick knacks. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the market for interesting games and collectibles.
