I firmly believe in leaving good reviews. However, this one is rather difficult to do that. This is not directed at the staff working with the residents. This is directed towards the staff who are the pencil pushing office workers. They do not communicate well. The unprofessional conduct is abundantly evident. It quite clear to me itโ€™s about the money flow and not the well being of the residents.

Very unprofessional. They failed to give proper notice of name change and expected immediate resolution. Also, they charge illegal usury rates of 48% per year.

ALL of the staff have been fantastic with our parents in addressing their various needs since their move last October. We feel so grateful that they are so dedicated and hardworking.

To start, since its inception in 2019, Calveria Living is the fourth corporate entity to own/oversee the original "The Retreat in Fishersville." Now, where do I begin? My father was there from June 2023 to January 2025 at which time he passed. He was in the memory care unit, where patients never received the type of care that they should have on ALL levels. If I went into details about everything, I could write a book. Therefore, I will list my thoughts. To start, I had major medication issues the day we moved in. That should have been a red flag. There is MAJOR turnover in staff on the patient care level. Most of the time since the facility has been there, there has never been a nurse on staff (always someone "stepping up" to try and fill that role.) If a nurse was ever hired, they never stayed. There was no consistent and firm consequences (termination) for improper employee behavior. There was NEVER enough coverage, and the night shift was worse. Sometimes (more than I care to think about) there may have only been two to three at most, employees in the whole building with no one to call for support. Weekend coverage was scant as well, but not as bad. I gave my father showers and did his laundry. Even though his hamper was marked, the wall had a note, and staff knew, they would do his laundry occasionally, and things would come up missing. Speaking of that, my Dad had to wear compression socks. It took six months for the staff to get it right, and still until the day he passed, they didn't get it right. The menus had delightful food listed, but on the Memory Care unit, the food was too "elegant" and sometimes that meant spicy. The portions were small and these residents, I think, would have preferred good 'ol meat and potatoes. Housekeeping in the rooms was pretty good, but I always kept tabs on that and had them come back to the room if it was not done properly, mainly in the bathroom. The activities that were provided were never very well suited in Memory Care. There was turnover in the Activity Director position as well. Overall appearance of the facility: If the few pictures currently showing on the website are as the facility actually is, the decor has been redone. It was disgusting in the Memory Care unit. There was also constant turnover in the Executive Director position. Some of the Google reviews with five star ratings are from employees or their family members. And now for the clencher. **PLEASE NOTE: THIS WAS THE POLICY WITH ENGLISH MEADOWS AND MAY NOT BE THE CASE WITH CALVERIA AT FISHERSVILLE. You had to pay at the beginning of the month for the whole month. If your loved one passed away, you were responsible for two weeks past the day of passing and did not get a refund, unless the number of days exceeded the two-week mark. Please read ALL fine print, be very observant while touring, and take notes. **KEEP IN MIND. My review and all of the others (a lot are four to five years ago) are PRIOR to Calveria Living at Fishersville taking over. I spent a lot of time there to make sure my Dad received the best care that you can expect from a facility. There were a few of us that were like minded in that regard. So, give them a chance.

I have often had the opportunity to go to The Retreat at Fishersville as an outside home health employee. I have always found the staff there to be quite friendly, considerate, and compassionate. My concerns have always been addressed in a prompt manner. I would certainly give them high marks as an assisted living facility and want to personally thank them for their kind assistance.
