She graduated MBBS from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and then completed her MD from the same University in Internal Medicine, followed by a Neurology residency at the Harvard University, Partners Neurology Program, Boston, MA. She then completed her clinical neurophysiology fellowship training at The Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard University, Boston MA, following which she joined the Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in 2011, as faculty, where she led the fellow run Medicaid epilepsy clinic for years, and oversaw and supervised its integration with the faculty private practice, to improve equity and accessibility of care to patients regardless of their socio-economic background or payer, and to improve fellow education, and continuity of care for both fellows and patients. She is also closely involved in epilepsy fellow education and training. She initiated and expanded a program for neuromodulation in epilepsy at the Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Her clinical work has focused on drug resistant epilepsy patients, and epilepsy surgery/neuromodulation candidates. She leads the coordination of clinical, pre-surgical and educational components of the surgical program. She leads the development and revision of protocols for presurgical evaluation, intracranial monitoring, and surgical and device-based treatments; participates and leads multidisciplinary epilepsy surgery conferences guiding discussions on advanced techniques like stereotactic EEG implantation for brain mapping, identifying the epileptogenic zone for laser ablation, resection and identifying targets for neuromodulation as well as other minimally invasive procedures such as radiofrequency ablation using stereotactic EEG electrodes. She collaborates closely with the epilepsy-neurology and neurosurgery teams, EEG/clinical neurophysiology, neuroradiology, neuropsychology, and inpatient services for quality improvement in coordination with program leadership, leads weekly quality review/improvement meetings to ensure high standards of patient care, efficiency in presurgical evaluation, and education and operations of the surgical program. She initiated a referral pipeline for epilepsy surgery candidates in local level 3 epilepsy centers in northern NJ and NY, as a result of which there has been significant improvement in access to epilepsy surgery and neuromodulation treatment options for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy.
