15 years ago, I walked into Sapporo Ramen not knowing what I was getting into. I've spent the years since trying to explain it to people and mostly failing.
This is Sapporo-style ramen with its own twist. The broth is thick, salty, and intensely chicken-forward, bearing no resemblance to the pork or miso bowls most of us would picture in the US. The chashu is generously thick-cut, lean, and deeply flavored, unlike the typical fatty, rolled chashu found elsewhere. The noodles are firm. The toppings are wok-finished to order. You used to be able to watch the chef doing it himself in the Porter square location. None of it is an accident, and none of it has changed.
If you're hesitating over the one-star reviews: they're not wrong about the facts. The broth is bold and salty. The noodles are firm, almost chewy. And yes, it costs more than you'd expect for “just ramen.” What they're missing is that all of it is intentional—and if you understand what you're eating, it's perfect.
That's the thing about this place. Boston has watched a thousand restaurants chase whatever is next. Sapporo just kept making the same bowl. On a stormy Boston night, nothing feeds the soul quite like it.
If you see the chef serving your ramen, give him a smile. I think he appreciates it.

Decided to try Sapporo for first time since they moved from their OG Porter Sq location. Had craving for their thick, tasty broth. We got the house ramen and the taste was the same, very delicious, but portions are a lot smaller than previous (and more expensive). Gyoza also taste the same but are now deep fried and not pan fried. Good if you are in the mood for ramen while at the mall, but probably not worth a special trip just to have.

The food was terrible. About half an hour after eating this ramen, I started experiencing symptoms of diarrhea and abdominal pain, which persisted throughout the evening. I had eaten it around 5:00 PM.

I haven’t been to CSG for a while and love how they have revamped the food court space into a nice and comfortable food hall.
I instantly gravitated towards Sapporo Ramen and we ordered some ramen, katsu curry, sushi, and poke bowl. We really enjoyed the miso ramen because the broth was just so rich! The katsu curry was also super flavorful.
The service was great and food delicious, you’d like them.

My new go-to spot for casual Japanese takeout bowls.
Since Sapporo Ramen relocated from its Porter Square location to this new food hall, I’ve stopped by a couple of times for a quick meal. Maybe it’s my bias toward Japanese food, but among the options here, Sapporo stands out as the most solid choice.
Among the rice bowls, the Curry Pork Katsu is my favorite. Back in their Porter Square days, the pork katsu was underwhelming—often dry and over-cooked. But here, it’s been given a much-needed upgrade: crispier and juicier. A close second is their Beef Gyudon. The beef is not only well-seasoned but also has just the right amount of fat to keep each bite rich and satisfying.
Unfortunately, their ramen remained unchanged from what I remembered at Porter Square. While the noodles were perfectly cooked, the broth still lacked the depth and richness. I did, however, find the Spicy Miso ramen to have a bit more flavor complexity than the house ramen.
Much like their HMart location, this spot also offered pre-packaged sushi, and for the price, it was a solid option. The best time to grab one was around noon, as they’re usually made fresh in the morning—by dinner, the quality can be hit or miss. The prices are only slightly higher than what you’d find in grocery stores, so it was a reasonably priced choice for a quick sushi fix.
Favorites: Pork Katsu Curry, Beef Gyudon
Solid: Sushi packs (if made fresh), Spicy Miso Ramen, Chicken Katsu Curry
Decent: House Ramen, Gyoza, Chicken Karaage bowl
Poor: Takoyaki
