A native New Yorker, he earned his graduate medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency in Family Medicine at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital where he also served as Chief Resident. He specializes in preventive medicine, managing a wide spectrum of complex medical illnesses and sports injuries. He educates his patients about their illnesses - injuries, shares findings from examination and imaging studies and helps them determine their best treatment options. Dr. Makkawi is a firm believer of shared decision making and helps his patients through an individualized empathic approach to make the most informed and best medical decision pertaining to their health care.
