Established in Germany in 1919, expanded in Israel, set foot in Toronto since 2017, it provides German, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines.
After returning from our weekly urban hike along the black creek, we decided to explore the cuisines here. The cafe had modern-vintage design style. Red booth seating paired with a round table provided us a communal gathering atmosphere. It was late for lunch and not many people were there.
Five of us shared Israeli sabich bowl (eggplant, potatoes, poached eggs, tahini, pita chips), North Africa/Middle-Easten halloumi shakshuka (with Jewish challah) , merguez shakshuka (beef sausage, with Italian focaccia), Mediterranean chicken shawarma hummus bowl and German-style landwer’s famous schnitzel (fried chicken breast with fries). I liked all the dishes. Soft/sweet challah and thick focaccia served perfectly as a vehicle to soak/scoop up the tomato and pepper sauce. Hallumi cheese was firm and chewy. The chicken breast was sliced thinly and tender. The hummus and tahini were very savory. I have tried some middle-eastern food before, but never felt as delicious as in this cafe.
The waiter from Russia was very tall and handsome and patient which made the dining experience more enjoyable.
Their coffee is famous. It was in the late afternoon thus I didn’t order any coffee for fear of the sleepless night. I’ll come back again in future.

Very disappointing experience with the Sabbich Bowl at the Bloor location.
I had the Sabbich Bowl on my previous visit, and it was honestly **5/5—so good that I came back last night specifically to have it again.
Unfortunately, this time it was extremely disappointing. The bowl was **partially cooked, dry, and lacked flavour**, and there was barely any sauce. The difference between my two visits is clearly visible in the pictures.
I did mention the lack of sauce to the server, and he kindly brought me some extra sauce, which I appreciated. However, even after adding it, the dish was still dry and tasteless overall.
I understand that dishes can vary, but this was a **huge difference in quality** compared to my previous experience. It honestly wasn't worth the money or the time, especially since I specifically returned because I had loved it before.
I hope the management looks into the consistency and quality of this dish. I’d also appreciate a **small gesture or discount toward a future visit**. I'd be happy to give the Sabbich Bowl another chance if it’s prepared properly.

I came to Cafe Landwer for the first time
Sunday more and was so happy with the experience. Just got a smoothie to go as I was on a time crunch but, it was made in a timely matter and amazing in taste! Raquel and Pooya were both incredibly warm, kind, and welcoming. It’s always nice when the people serving you make you feel genuinely comfortable and appreciated. I’m definitely looking forward to coming back and having the opportunity to dine in and try some of the other menu items. Thank you both for making my first visit such a positive one! 🤍

This is a great cafe with an excellent selection of food and drinks. We often order the Famous Schnitzel and the Sabich Bowl, and both are consistently delicious! The ingredients always taste fresh, the portions are generous, and everything is well prepared. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the service is friendly. Overall, it's a great place for a casual meal, and we always enjoy coming back.
