I gave them one star because there are no zeros. Zero is what they are. I have gone to that store several times and have always left empty handed. Their stock is pitiful. They say "you can always order it". When it is a routine/basic marine item, I don't want to order it! Besides, I can do that online for a lot less than they charge for the item. Their staff is untrained as to the stock that they do carry and have absolutely no interest in helping you with what you do need. Definitely no thinkers there. Save time and aggravation and shop elsewhere!!!

The hours of operation for these stores are not very good. They close at 530 which I am sure costs them alot of sales.

Had a horrible experience there today. I tried to return $200 of products I received from my wife as a Christmas present, which I could not use. She had bought them in early December & they have a 14 day policy to return for a full refund, which obviously we could not meet.
But they have a WRITTEN return policy at their checkout which states a 15% restocking fee if returned after 14 days. They refused any me any credit & would not accept the return, even though I had the original receipt & both products were in their original packaging. When I approached the manager for help, he ignored me & refused me any credit.
This is a lame business, that does not stand behind their products, nor their own WRITTEN return policy.
It's too bad, as I have just bought a 1986 Beneteau 375 & was hoping to inquire about replacing up to $10,000 of 25 year old B&G electronic instruments while I was down there, among other things. I'm taking ALL of my business to West Marine, as they know how to treat a customer properly!

I purchased an inflatable kayak from Steveston Marine & Hardware (Vancouver) . I took it home, inflated it, and realized that it was not big enough for two adults. I packed it up and within a week took it back to the store, they refused to take it back as they stated “they could not sell it, so it wouldn’t be goo d business” . Spoke to the owner today and he stated that once the box is opened they will not take it back. So what they say on their website as “satisfaction guaranteed” holds no truth. At first they said if the boat touched water they wouldn’t take it back, when advised that the boat had just been inflated, they said well you opened the box. They refuse to take it back even though it is well within the 14 day timeframe. No where on the receipt does it state that this was a final sale, nor that they would not take inflatable items back. To top the matter off I had previously contacted the Richmond store and was advised that as long as the boat did not touch water it could be returned for a full refund. I would never go back to Steveston Marine. They claim to have great customer service, well from my experience on 3 occasions that is NOT the case.
