Once upon a time, a child had a dream - to start a bubble tea shop, using real tea, with fresh ingredients. Back then, the only bubble tea options were cheap instant mixes at Chinese takeout shops. Back then, the only bubble tea options were cheap instant mixes at Chinese takeout shops. Few understood the origin of hand-shaken bubble teas, invented in Taiwan in the 1980s. Chasing the dream, in classic second-generation style, we went to Taiwan and packed an empty suitcase full of Taiwanese tea and tapioca. Amah (grandma) found out and grew angry that we were leaving school, jobs - the right path - to make tea. Alas, this dream was before its time.
