Dr. Schmitz completed medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, SC, followed by a family medicine residency at East Tennessee State University in the Tricities of Tennessee. He then did a sports medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He has interests in musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound-guided procedures, tendinopathies and overuse injuries. Advanced ultrasound procedures that he can perform include, but are not limited to: glenohumeral joint hydrodistension, high-volume image-guided injection/tendon scraping of Achilles or patellar tendon, calcific barbotage, percutaneous needle tenotomy, various nerve blocks, and platelet- rich plasma injections.
