Here’s a snapshot of what it’s like to live in the “paradise” that is Wellington Towers. Apartments are small and poorly laid out; hallways, laundry room, and other common areas are filthy and poorly maintained; and the complex is administered by a bunch of lazy, ineffective, do-nothings who find any excuse to enter your apartment. In the past month there have been THREE individual “unit inspections” for stupid reasons: first a “safety inspection” that was the super nosing about your home, then a “smoke detector test” where they looked at a blinking light and nosed around some more, then a “manager’s inspection” where the super and a new level of corporate middle management nosed about your unit. Don’t even ask about the near nightly visits form the local police responding to domestic cases.
As far as the neighbours are concerned, I have a hard time picking my favourite. There is the couple that let their kids run (or bike!!!!) in the hallways around 7pm every night. The guy who, from the sounds of it, is running a sawmill in his apartment at random times (table sawing 8-11 pm was my favourite, although it did drown out the screaming kids). The senior citizens next door who get initimate on Thursday nights from 10-10:02pm. Or the on-gong vendetta between two tenants that seem to involve spraying ketchup and mustard on each other’s doors.
If you are looking to test your willpower and resilience, then Wellington Towers are the rental accommodations for you. After living in this black pit of hell, you can pretty much withstand anything. As soon as my lease is up, I’m out.
