It's not hard to welcome customers. A smile, a pleasant hello, and treating people as if they're valued, not an imposition. Didn't get that today (and until today, this was the only optometry clinic I went to). And if the doctor calls herself Doctor So-and-So, it's basic courtesy to address me--a grown adult--as Mr. So-and-So. Didn't happen. If a doctor's demeanor suggests I'm just another number, why should I return when there are so many competitors who want my business? (It was my first time seeing this optometrist; the previous one was always excellent). And when she tells me that I'll need a dilation test, and I ask what the purpose is, does she need to respond tautologically, "To look inside your eye?" And when I ask further, "But what is the purpose?" does she need to say, with a sideward glance, "To check for health?" Obviously, for health--she's a doctor. Clearly that's her purpose. Is it so unreasonable for a patient to want to know *what illness or injury* the dilation test will seek or assess?

Simple courtesy and kindness, which the previous optometrist had in spades, was not on display today. I don't need to return when Edmonton offers so many clinics, and some closer to my house.
