Before joining Baptist Health, Dr. Mathew was an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Dr. Mathew earned his medical degree at University of Florida College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he was selected to be chief resident. He then completed fellowship training in hematology and medical oncology at New York Presbyterian Hospital/ColumbiaUniversity Medical Center, where he was appointed chief fellow. In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Mathew has extensive experience in clinical trials research and immuno-oncology. He has been the site principal investigator for large, national cooperative group studies and has also designed and implemented trials focused on advancing new and more effective treatments for patients. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Mathew believes a multidisciplinary approach to treatment is crucial for cancer care. His approach to patient care involves working together with the rest of the cancer care team — from surgeons to social workers — to ensure that patients have a strong support network during treatment.
