My wife and I moved into Highgate in April 2025, and for the first year, we genuinely enjoyed living here. The community was well managed, communication was responsive, and we were happy enough to renew our lease.

Unfortunately, once Nate and Brian left in early 2026, the quality of this community declined dramatically.

For months, there was no on-site property manager. During that time, getting a response from the leasing office became nearly impossible. As our lease renewal deadline approached, we had multiple questions but couldn’t get answers. We were essentially forced to renew because no one could respond or process our request. To make matters worse, after our new lease had already started, the office called asking if we had renewed because they had lost their records.

That experience set the tone for everything that followed.

Since the new staff took over, we’ve continued trying to resolve those same lease questions. Months have passed, and despite countless emails, phone calls, and office visits, nothing has been resolved. Every conversation ends with, “We’ll follow up,” or, “Management has to handle that.” The follow-up never comes. We have quite literally gone months without receiving a single written response.

The leasing staff has always been friendly, but they don’t seem empowered to solve anything. Nearly every issue is deferred to someone off-site who either never responds or is impossible to reach even after the office repeatedly tells us to “send an email.”

The communication problems extend beyond leasing. After switching rent payment portals, our account suddenly showed an unexplained $100 charge. We have never paid rent late, in fact, we usually pay several days early. Weeks later, no one has been able to explain the charge because we’re still waiting on an off-site bookkeeper who also doesn’t respond.

Maintenance has become equally frustrating. We waited four weeks for a broken garbage disposal despite multiple reminders before finally calling emergency maintenance. We’ve also had maintenance requests marked “completed” despite nobody ever coming to our apartment.

Amenities have declined while residents continue paying the same fees. The package delivery service was removed and replaced with Amazon lockers that no one asked for, yet amenity fees stayed the same. The pool has also closed multiple times this summer with little notice because of staffing shortages.

Security has become another concern, with recurring issues involving exterior doors not closing or locking properly.

The property itself has noticeably deteriorated. Grass is frequently overgrown, flower beds are full of dead plants, and mushrooms are left throughout common areas for extended periods. In a community with so many dogs, that’s an unnecessary safety concern. For months, the lobby and first-floor hallways have also had an unacceptable bug problem.

Parking has become another frustration. Despite assigned spaces, people regularly park in the wrong spots, and overflow parking has become a recurring issue.

The most frustrating part is that none of these issues alone would have motivated me to write this review. Maintenance delays happen. Staffing changes happen.

The problem is the pattern.

Every issue turns into weeks or months of chasing someone for answers. Emails go unanswered. Phone calls aren’t returned. Promised follow-ups never happen. Accountability feels nonexistent.

Highgate charges premium prices and markets itself as a luxury apartment community. At those prices, residents should expect responsive management, clear communication, and timely resolutions. Instead, we’ve experienced the exact opposite.

It’s disappointing because this used to be a community I would have recommended without hesitation. Today, I can’t. If we hadn’t already renewed our lease before management changed, we would absolutely be living somewhere else.

Change in personnel seems to have left management office a little disorganized. After Marlene left, the leasing process was chaotic, to say the least. Senior management from other offices finally welcomed me and made sure I felt welcome. More than 2 weeks after moving in, and I’m still waiting for a parking spot assignment. When “future resident” parking is full, I have to go to visitor parking. When visitor parking is full, I park in a random parking spot and hope that it is not an assigned spot. I’m sure it will get resolved soon.

My partner and I had such a pleasure of working with Maylene. She was incredibly responsive, attentive, and proactive throughout the entire process. Maylene made everything move along quickly and smoothly, which we really appreciated. It was truly a pleasure working with her, and she made the experience both easy and enjoyable.

Been living here for over a year now . Although there was a switch in management, I would still highly recommend this building to anyone seeking not just a beautiful place to live, but a great community of respectful people.
As I get to know our new manager Maylene, she is a great. She’s approachable and addresses all of my concerns in a timely manner. Happy Highgate Resident here ❤️
