We had been satisfied customers of Perfect Place Kennels for several years until a recent experience totally changed that.

On November 2, 2019 we kenneled our 2 english setter dogs, one of them a 4-month old puppy at Perfect Place Kennels near Devon, AB. They were both healthy when we dropped them off. From the moment we picked them up again early morning of November 3rd the puppy was vomiting and could not keep any food down. X-rays and blood testing on November 5th were inconclusive but the vet felt something in his tummy that could have been stool or a foreign object; he was prescribed laxatives and special food. All the time the vomiting continued. The morning of November 6th he crashed outside of our house. To make a long story short our puppy needed emergency surgery and 2 nights care at the vet. It was a high-risk surgery by that time and we were told he might not survive the procedure. The picture shows what they found in his intestines; a plush toy that had gotten stuck.

The puppy was always leashed and never out of our sight either before or after we kenneled him; the only place he could have gotten a hold of the toy was the kennel. When I called the owner Lori-Ann the response was basically that this never could have happened at their kennel because they had 'processes and procedures in place'. Their staff was well trained, none of them recognized the toy, and the owner herself supposedly inspected the yard before the puppy was let out. She called our vet and consulted another vet for a second opinion. Bottom line is that they did not want to accept any responsibility for what only could have happened at their facility. This incident cost us over $1,500 in vet bills, caused us a great deal of anxiety and we nearly lost our puppy. If a kennel such as Perfect Place Kennels accepts the responsibility of taking an animal into its care it should also accept responsibility for the fact that something might happen to that animal, despite processes and procedures being in place. We are all human and mistakes can happen. Had the owner been open to a conversation about that we are sure we would have come to some kind of arrangement that would have worked for both parties. The owner chose not to do that. We do not like to leave negative reviews but the kennel left us no choice.

My two dogs have enjoyed excellent care at Perfect Place kennels for over 10 years. And the exceptional nature of client service by Steve and Val and their staff went beyond my expectations when I was suddenly unable to take care of the dogs due to a severe ankle break.

I was out walking my 14 year old dog in my Edmonton neighborhood when I fell on a patch of black ice. I was alone and realized I needed help with my dog before I could call an ambulance. I called Steve and Val. They came immediately from near Devon and found me by the side of the street. Soon both dogs were on their way to the kennel and I was on my way to the hospital with one less worry . I knew the dogs would feel secure, safe and cared for. I could focus on my unexpected health challenge.

During my two month recovery Steve and Val brought the dogs to visit and arranged that they be groomed. The visits were much needed therapy for me. When the dogs came home they were happy and healthy. I was so glad for the established relationship my dogs and I had with this kennel.

Many thanks to Steve and Val and all the Perfect Place staff!

We own a pup who was aggressive from birth. We were so lucky to have a friend who suggested Steve at Perfect Place Kennels!! He has an understanding of dogs unlike any other.. He taught us how to raise an A1++ Alpha male dog. Using Steve's methods Hanzel now understands he isn't the boss! He adores his visits at the kennel, he cant wait to get out of the car to go see his friends! Our family can't say enough about Steve's teachings and his knowledge! I would recommend Perfect Place Kennels to anyone!! Thank you so much we are forever grateful! This truly is the "Perfect Place"!!!

Perfect Place Boarding Kennels apparently has a policy that if you pick your pets up after 10am they charge you for that day, we picked up our 2 pets at 10:10am and got charged for that day. Instead of arguing about being charged the day rate for being 10 minutes late we have decided to use another kennel!

I took a tour recently with my dogs and oh my goodness. The staff was super friendly however the facility itself was down right disgusting. Dust, mold, dirt galore. I was happy with the people who worked there but not what so ever satisfied with the pen or yard conditions. We will consider this place if and when the standards of cleanliness are improved.

Super friendly staff. Awesome kennel workers. However once getting into the dog area it was very clear that it was not as clean as one would expect. Yards are very dusty and no grooming optional. Staff seem to love the animals, facility is just not up to par.

I was informed on a tour that dogs are only walked when they are not busy, and that not every dog gets walked everyday, like they claimed when I first called. There were dogs in crates, to which I was told these dogs stay there the entire stay. No way would I ever leave my dog in a crate for 2 weeks! The pens were dirty, the yards smelled, fencing was not safe and I could see damage done to a pen, in which the employee told me it was
from a dog a few months ago. When I asked how long the dogs are left overnight, I was told from 7:30pm-8am. That's 12.5 hours...and they have dogs in crates the whole time.
I will not be bringing my dogs there, and have cancelled my bookimg.

We have started taking out bulldog and bullmastiff to this kennel. We couldn't be happier!!! They are incredible with our dogs and know exactly how to handle these powerful breeds. Dogs came home tired and happy. Just the way we like them. We have tried many other places but nothing compares. If you want a safe and reliable place where you know your dogs are getting love and discipline this is the place for you.

Caught between moves, I needed a place to keep my chinchillas, degus, and a rabbit. Despite the unusual request, they were more than willing to accommodate me. After one of the chinchillas became sick, (related to a recent pregnancy), they had no problem in giving medication to her.

I get the vibe that these people really care about animals and are willing to do whatever it takes to help them out. Your animals are in good hands here.

We have a small house dog and left him there for the first time for a week. I was nervous about leaving him as I though the faciclity wasn't that great. The people seemed nice, but for small house dogs, not a very clean or nice place to leave him, but I trusted he would be ok. When we picked him up, they said he wouldn't eat and was eating his own poop. He came home absolutely traumatized and drank a gallon of water when we got in the door. He was filthy and stinky and had diarrhea, plus they told us that kennel cough was going around the facility. His bedding in his own kennel that we brought with us was gone and he had to sleep just in the box with none of his stuff. This was not a good place to leave our dog, and I regret it. It makes me wonder how he was treated as he cowards whenever we go near him and looks so very sad. Never again, I feel horrible about leaving him there and I hope he gets over this experience as he is not the same dog right now. My kids cried leaving him and for good reason. Next time I will leave him with friends or family as I am furious right now and feel sick to my stomach that we did this to a much loved member of our family....

Caring people in a large country setting. Steve offered training during our dogs stay. Several daily walks in addition to interactive dog play in the doggy daycare. Moderately dusty play area combined with no grooming where the only negatives.
