I’d like to share my experience camping for four days at Greenbrier State Park. We went as a family—two adults and three children—and booked site #87 in the Cedar Loop. We paid 90 dollars for 4 nights. It had electricity and was close to the loop's restroom facilities, which were clean and included showers. We brought a large tent, an electric stove, a 10x10 canopy, kitchen utensils, two Queen-sized air mattresses, and a mini-fridge; everything fit well with plenty of space. The loop gets sun in the morning, the weather is pleasant in the afternoon, and it gets quite cool—sometimes even cold—at night, so be sure to bring bedding. There is a fire pit, and you can buy firewood at a supermarket near the park. The man-made beach is great, with a pleasant atmosphere and no rowdiness; the park is well-organized. We didn't need the car to get from the Cedar Loop to the beach; we just followed the orange trail—an easy 15-minute walk. It was a wonderful trip! I always book from Tuesday to Saturday so we can enjoy the park without the crowds. I give it a 10/10. I’ve already made a reservation for August—be sure to book yours in advance.

> We had such a great time at Greenbrier Park! Even though it was Father's Day, it wasn't nearly as crowded as I expected. The park was incredibly clean, and the water was some of the cleanest I've seen in a long time. It made for the perfect day to relax, splash around, and make memories with the boys. We'll definitely be back! 🌿☀️💦

Aside from the relentless bugs, this park was great. Perfect for families (it was all young families with small children). Saw a lot of people fishing on boats or off the docks. The water and beach was clean. Just so many bugs and bees flying around. Bathrooms were spotless and well stocked. I got to the park around 8:30 AM and there were only a few people here before me. $3 entry for Maryland residents. I came in mid-May before Memorial Day, so I am not sure how busy it is during peak season, but I’ve heard it’s best to come early.

It was our first time here and we were very impressed at the facilities offered, tables and grills were everywhere, bathrooms were clean, beach and water were clean. Staff was helpful and friendly. Dogs are allowed in the park, leashed, but not on the beaches between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

We stayed in the electrical hookup area site 103 (easy in/out) great location, complete with fire pit, picnic table & quit due to spacing of the campsites. Thank You for a great place to stay.

We recently visited Greenbrier State Park with the family and had an amazing time—both for a fun-filled day and an overnight camping experience. This park is a gem tucked away in Western Maryland, and it’s perfect for nature lovers, families, and weekend getaways.

Nature & Trails:
The hiking trails are well-marked and suitable for all ages. Our kids enjoyed the short loops, and the forest scenery was peaceful and refreshing. Great for light adventure and stretching your legs.

Camping:
We camped for 2 nights and were really impressed. The campground is clean, spacious, and well-organized. There are 4 camping loops, and Loop D is pet-friendly (a great bonus for those traveling with dogs). Each site had a fire ring and picnic table, and the loops had easy access to restrooms and water. Quiet hours were respected, and it felt very family-friendly and safe.

Lake & Beach:
The lake is clean and calm, with a sandy beach area that’s perfect for swimming and relaxing. While pets are not allowed in the lake or beach area, there’s a large lawn above the lake where dogs can play or rest. Lifeguards were on duty, and it felt secure for kids to splash around.

Picnic & Facilities:
There are great picnic spots with tables and grills, many shaded by trees. Bathrooms and changing areas were clean and conveniently located. Everything felt well-maintained and thoughtful for families.

Important Tip:
If you’re planning a day visit on weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, make sure to reserve a Day-Use pass online in advance, as it does fill up quickly during peak season.

Great campground pet friendly. It was only $35.00 for a site with power. The dump station is near the main entrance, which is easy to locate. Campground has lots of hills, some really steep. The lake was cold and amazing. My family and I had a great time at the lake and walking the trails.

This is a huge park, great for camping, hiking, walking, beach relaxing and more.

Be aware: constructions are currently going on at different places of the park including the main entrance. After the constructions are completed, the park will start to request campers or day visitors to make reservations online during holidays and weekends visitors.

Atmosphere: it’s a large park filled with nature’s love, trees, water, birds, logs, dirt paths, bugs, wildlife, fresh air and tables benches roads for visitors.

Service: staff in the visitors’ center are friendly and knowledgeable.

Value: you cannot put a price tag on your love of nature and experience of outdoors.

Parking: there is no issue to find parkings inside the park, just depending on how far you are willing to walk.

Beautiful park, highly recommend.

This a charming little state park not much more than an hours drive from DC. It's a small lake that gets crowded in the summer, but I really enjoyed visiting in the fall to enjoy the colors. The park offers camping, hiking, swimming, fishing, and boating activities. There are numerous other Maryland state parks in the vicinity, so you can have a great day-trip or weekend getaway.

Great state park for families! We visited for the first time due to friends recommending this park and had a great time. The staff was very friendly, park was clean, and the Fall views were fantastic. Highly recommend the drive to at least walk around the lake!

Beautiful and very clean lake! Perfect for a day trip or longer if you want to camp. During the summer time they get very crowded and often fill to capacity within a few hours of opening. I would usually go in the evenings if they reopened. There are many places to grill with picnics tables. A boat ramp. Concession stands and boat rentals are open during the summer. Daily entrance fees vary. Campsites are around $30 or less. Overall a great place for all.

We went in the middle of September and it wasn’t that full. Beautiful scenery, with clean beach and clear water. Would definitely recommend.

A nice place to camp and it’s around an hour from DMV area. They have electricity, restrooms and shower rooms. Minimum booking is 2 nights. Recommended.

It was a nice experience
Completed my summer bucket list. However it was a bit packed and it is a place you want to come to as early as possible. The water was not blue as I expected but still pretty clean and clear. Nice white sand perhaps nicer than Ocean city Beach. Great place for families with children. Lifeguards on duty. Shallow swim area perfect for children.

Scenic lake area with moderate to hard trails nearby. Some steep areas and loose rocks so watch your step. Went on Monday morning so it was quiet and peaceful. Worth the $3

The campground was basically empty, camper demographic has changed from 2 years ago. Bathrooms were clean, however, non english speaking kids rode around and around the bath house. The lake was too crowded, with loud spanish music playing. Not for me and I won’t go back, I prefer a more quiet environment

Beautiful lake. Bathrooms on the site were pretty clean. Sand was soft like powder. We went on a Monday and no issues when we arrived. It started getting crowded around 12 pm. But still plenty of space to hang out and enjoy the water. No trash cans so you take your trash with you. Lifeguards on duty from 11 am to 6 pm. They do a great job keeping things running smoothly. My kids had a blast. Can't wait to go back

It's very nice park with freshwater beach. You need to plan your visit to come very early. The park is open at 8am, but when we got here today at around 8:15am, the line outside of the entrance gate was about a mile long (NOT exaggerating!) Luckily, we were able to get in after an hour of being in line. The restroom is clean.

Last time, when we got here, we waited in line outside the gate for almost 2hrs just to be told that the park was full. We, then ended up going to Cunningham fall state park that was the closest one with a small beach our kids can play.

The park is very nice, we went on a weekday and there were not many people but on weekends you have to go early because they allow a limited number to enter. There are many tables and grills. The beach is very nice and clean. Ideal for children, they have lifeguards and a Kiosk. The bathrooms have showers and changing areas. They charge $5 per person if you are from Maryland and $7 out of state. In conclusion, very nice and pleasant to spend the day

Large, pleasant and relaxing park. I really liked the peacefulness of the area, the beach by the lake, the mini hiking in the forest, the walking tour of the lake, the beach and the bird calls as the only surrounding noise in some spots. I’d have loved to encounter a black bear 🤪

Have gone there on many solo camps. Definitely one of my more favorite State Parks to visit. Staff are always friendly and especially helpful. Bathrooms damn near spotless!!! It’s not far from the town to get whatever you forgot on your way there 🤣. Definitely a 10/10 and would recommend. Lines gets a bit long and books up quickly so keep that in mind if you want to reserve a spot.

We heard from a local that there was a good loop trail around the lake, and ended up walking the loop twice. Then, we came back again the next day for another two loops. Facilities are clean and it looked like lots of families were enjoying time here. My only suggestion is to provide a way to pay the fee that doesn't require cash.
