She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.With a degree in English, Dr. Hewell chose to pursue medicine after working with her father for a year in a hospital following graduation. "The hospital was such an exciting environment," she says, "and I loved the opportunity to care for people during vulnerable times."She was drawn to OB/GYN because it combines all her passions in medicine. "It encompasses everything," she explains. "You get the continuity of care with patients, a mix of emergency medicine, surgery and there's truly nothing better than delivering babies."Dr. Hewell is passionate about working through problems with her patients.
