Today I had an extremely frustrating experience at the HomeGoods in Knightdale, NC. I went in to purchase a gift bag that had an apple design on it for my son’s teacher for an upcoming open house. When I brought it to the register, the cashier, Colleen, insisted that she could not ring up the item unless I placed it inside a plastic bag. She explained that this was due to “high theft rates” and that she had to ensure I walked out with my bag in another bag.

I explained that I simply wanted to buy the gift bag as it was, but she refused. At that point, I asked her to cancel the transaction so I could speak with a manager. When I spoke with the lead, they were appalled and assured me that no such policy exists. They also told me that Colleen would be retrained immediately.

This type of interaction left me feeling singled out and uncomfortable. As a customer, I expect clear and consistent policies—not to be treated like a potential thief when I’m making a simple purchase. While I appreciated the lead’s professionalism and quick reassurance, the cashier’s behavior was unacceptable and ruined what should have been a quick and pleasant shopping trip.

I truly hope HomeGoods takes this seriously and ensures staff are trained properly so that no one else has this type of experience.

Every HomeGoods is a different shopping experience. Best time to go is FIRST thing in the morning due to the eBay resellers. They buy popular items (all of it) then sell it for 4 times the price. Capitalism at its best I guess.

Love this store! So many unique items and practical items as well. It’s always fun to walk around see what’s new on the shelves. Friendly customer service and reasonable prices, too!

Great selection of merchandise and well displayed. Great prices and helpful staff. Location is convenient to everything in Knightdale. Highly recommend!

Nice store lots of decor more than the other HG locations. HG needs a bigger space otherwise people are careless and breaks stuff because of the tight aisles. Or better still don’t go on a sat or Sunday. Wednesdays when they load new items. You gotta buy it if you want it or they could be gone. Just in time for the holidays!
