Dr. MacDonald earned his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech, where he was involved with the sports medicine department of the Virginia Tech football team. He went on to complete medical school at VCOM in Blacksburg, VA. Then, he came to Charleston to complete his Family Medicine Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. After residency, Dr. MacDonald went on to complete a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute with Andrews Sports Medicine in Birmingham, AL. During his fellowship, he was the team physician for Jacksonville State University, Birmingham-Southern College, the Birmingham Barons minor league baseball team and Leeds High School. Dr. MacDonald has a special interest in sports medicine, sports-related concussions and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
