I found Jade Chinese school from PVPUSD flyer and decided to try this new school after talking with Julia. Julia has her unique way of teaching beginner. I’m really impressed of the progress my daughter has made in just 3 months. She started as a complete beginner and attending lessons twice a week, she can now recognize and read more than 60 Chinese characters and she is fluent in pinyin pronunciation. It has been a pleasure to watch her develop her chinese skills. I signed her up for the after school Chinese program for the next school year and look forward to more progress in the coming years.

We feel so incredibly lucky to have found our daughter’s Chinese teacher. Our daughter is 6 years old and had never studied Chinese before. Julia is a wonderful Mandarin Chinese teacher. She is from Taiwan and speaks fluent English and is very kind and patient. She currently teaches our 6 year old son as well as weekly lessons for my wife and I. She knows how to teach to adults and kids very well, catering to both youths as well as adults and professionals. I have had several language teachers and I have to say her methods and explanations are the best! We highly recommend Julia for Mandarin lessons.

I’m truly amazed by the progress my two kids have made at Jade Chinese School — highly recommend! My 6- and 8-year-old children had studied Chinese for two years at other language schools, but they still couldn’t read Pinyin accurately, recognize or write Chinese characters, or even send me simple text messages in Chinese. I was so surprised by the remarkable improvement after learning with Ms. Julia and her effective teaching methods.
Thanks to her inspiring and engaging teaching style, my daughter has fallen in love with typing Chinese characters using Pinyin and can now read Pinyin books on her own after just three sessions with Ms. Julia. She can also accurately recognize and pronounce the four tones using the helpful hand gestures she learned in class. Julia is a great teacher, I highly recommend her. She works hard to work with your needs, budget, and schedule. She has really clever memory techniques to help you learn the characters, and even the different parts of characters. I have been learning Mandarin Chinese on and off for many, many years using apps and various books but I have never learned proper pronunciation or tones. But with Julia I learned pinyin (Romanized system for learning Mandarin Chinese) in just a few days! Now after just 2 months I can tell you a little bit about myself and my whole family! :)

Julia has honestly been a dream to work with and I am so lucky to have found her page on Instagram! She has taught me so much about Chinese language and Chinese culture and I have been overwhelmed with happiness and a since of accomplishment. Mandarin Chinese is NOT at all scary or daunting when she is guiding you through it! Concepts I genuinely could not get a grasp on learning alone she has demystified in minutes. I even have her voice in my head when writing characters which helps me remember stroke orders and why a character looks the way it does.

Recently, I have been making Chinese speaking friends online and when sending voice recordings they are super impressed with how I pronounce everything, which is so gratifying! I'm studying to start taking the proficiency test (HSK) and I feel very confident in what I have learned with Julia so far and I recommend you seek her out if you are looking for anything from daily conversation help to a career based track!

I am very much enjoying learning Chinese with Julia Tai who is a knowledgeable, experienced and patient teacher. There are 2 things I particularly like about her teaching. First, despite following a curriculum that is well structured and organized, she also improvises many details depending on the one-to-one interaction during lessons. Second, if what I say or write is incorrect or needs improvement, she carefully considers several alternatives as she tries to come up with better ways to express my thoughts. That allows me to learn various possibilities instead of a single answer. I believe that both of those ways of teaching will prepare me better for real-life conversational situations. Learning Mandarin has been an enriching and rewarding experience for me. As a
complete beginner, you can easily feel overwhelmed and daunted by the prospect of discovering a language with a reputation for being exceptionally difficult. However, thanks to Julia’s patience, comprehensive mindset and teaching methods, my journey
into the world of Mandarin has been both fulfilling and enjoyable. Learning Mandarin has presented its share of challenges, particularly in understanding pronunciation and characters, but with engaging lessons and personalized feedback you will get there!

Julia’s classes gather a mix of reading and listening exercises, grammar explanation along with writing periods, to make sure that you are learning in the right way. This enabled me to successfully pass HSK1 with a perfect score on my way to HSK2.

Now living in China, it really is enjoyable to be able to speak and follow easy conversations with my colleagues, interact in day-to-day situations, and connect with locals. It is also the first step to dig into this complex and rich culture. The road is still long but Mandarin is definitely addictive and makes you want to know more about it!

I studied Mandarin with Julia for a few months, and while I already had a decent foundation, she really helped me to deepen my understanding and pronunciation. Julia is very kind and patient. I've studied Mandarin with teacher Julia for over two years. Learning Chinese is very challenging and I've sometimes felt discouraged, but Julia has kept encouraging me, and I'm glad she did. Today, as an expat living in China, I'm very thankful for Julia's professionalism and great teaching skills. I am able to communicate with locals and hold a conversation entirely in Chinese. I can also read Chinese characters and it makes my life much easier in China! I've had other Chinese teachers and felt like "going as fast as we can" and memorizing is what they are going for. On the other hand, Julia is very patient and attaches a lot of importance to "mastering what you know" before moving on to something else, which I think is very important in order to learn a new language effectively.
