I have been admitted twice at oceans and I have nothing but good things to say about it, I was treated very well by nursing and staff, the group sessions are awesome the nursing an administration are well ran, they dint rush my care and I was put on meds that leveled me out perfectly, the dr’s checked in every day or so to make sure my care plan was working. I definitely would and have recommended Oceans Behavioral Hospital of Waco

I was sent here against my will. I was court ordered. My psychiatrist I'd been seeing for over 10 years was ignored and I was prescribed meds they thought I should be on. Not what I'd been taking for 10 years. I was physically assaulted by a male staff member bad. I was punched in the chest 5 or 6 times as hard as he could. Then, grabbed hard by both arms numerous times. My chest hurt for over a week and all I was given was Tylenol. I had huge bruises on my arms and chest. It was reported by several nurses and pictures were taken. I don't know if it was reported to the police department. I never talked to the police

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!!!This hospital's negligence killed my mother. She went there for stabilization and was on her usual prescription and soft food diet. Unfortunately after 10 days there was still no improvement and every time I was able to get through to her she sounded scared and disoriented. They gave my mother a hamburger, despite her soft food diet that was ordered and she choked and aspirated. They never notified me. I got a call from Baylor ER that she was there and they are the ones who let me know what happened. She was fine and talking to me on one day and the next, Intubated in ICU. She fought with everything she could, but the infection she got from aspiration killed her. Several lawyers have warned me that this hospital's legal team is shady and they have gotten away with killing patients before. I hope this helps save someone from suffering my mom's fate. We are heartbroken and dont know what else we can do other than to warn others.

I don’t want to give this joint any stars but that was not an option. My husband went in for them to regulate his meds. He was sent there by the skilled ( I say that lightly) nursing facility Greenview. All Oceans did was put him under chemical restraints. When he came out he couldn’t even function as he did before his 2 week stay. He doesn’t interact with family anymore, he can’t propell his wheelchair around anymore. But because Greenview couldn’t keep an eye or ear out for door alarms he escaped twice. IN HIS WHEELCHAIR!!!! Greenview couldn’t keep their eye on him so they sent him here. Now my husband has no quality of life.
I understand that this a common practice of nursing homes with clients they can’t keep their eye on.

Horrible experience!!! Only a few techs were nice. The RNs are very very cruel. BUT! They got me clean from drugs and I thank them for that. But definitely people are cruel who work here

This place was a joke. They sent my mom there and wouldn't tell me anything about her every day that I called. Then they called a week later and said you need to come pick her up. She needed help and they were mean to her and told me if I let her come home that they would have a weekly nurse come out. They gave me a sheet saying she had a doctor's appointment lined up and then when I called them they said nope. But really made me sad as I couldn't go get her and they said they would get her transported here. I was thinking like a paramedic but no they brought her here didn't help her out of the car didn't make sure somebody was home just left her sitting on my porch for God knows how long. She had a cell phone and I was tracking her location but didn't know they never gave her cell phone to her. So basically they didn't help at all and lost my mom's stuff that we brought her. They have not called to check on her and now she is back in the hospital. I've reached out for help and I've gotten nothing.. I know they didn't help her out of the car it's because I watch my ring camera after I realized she was sitting on the porch.

Find a different behavioral hospital! The discharge planning here is nonexistent. We needed placement in memory care as my mom was not safe to come home. They had her on injectable meds so skilled nursing facilities couldn’t take her, but they were discharging no matter what. We made the decision to pick her up & drive straight to a ER in Dallas where she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She literally had mucus all over her clothing from it running out of her nose. She was unable to walk & had to be put into my car. The negligence is unacceptable.

This place is very gluttony type indeed. Those feeling really bad about and having manic episode types that are verified, not just claimed should be in an insane portion.. they have mixed insane with just little memories loss. As well as perfectly sound with ex "smooch ING"? And? I'm homeless? Another? I have something to do? Oh? Tell me as much as possible thanks for applying for 50k losses of claimed billing? Which? 3k to 4k? / Oy we vay.. elderly people are so "special" for the stay thanks for holidays coming back and forth yacking for appreciated value? Can't get cleaned if no call? Not showing up? Oh no z courts of ethics? Is dat z problem I want some sugar? Not sweet and low cherry tomatoes! Gello? Tello? Old sense not good for buying a million times over and no legible arrangements and no archive except forgot it?

I was forcibly taken to this “hospital”. Where to start? They rushed me through the check in process because it was late. Answered questions for me without even asking.
As normal they took my phone, critical medications, and such. I was running on very little sleep (maybe two hours in the past 2 days). Told them that I was unable to eat, they got mad when I stayed in bed the next day and kept trying to get me to eat.
Had what I thought was a decent phone call with the psychiatrist. He told me that if the meds he wrote caused the side effects I told him they did. That he would fix it. He refused multiple medication that are critical to me. Leading me to sleep very little for my long stay.
For 4 days he refused to fix the meds. So I was out of compliance which caused me to stay 12 days in this hell hole. When I was finally able to speak with him. When he spoke with me his words were like venom. Telling me I didn’t know what I was talking about and he insulted my primary care. He said that those symptoms that I was experiencing were in my head. I told him flat out that I would be refusing to take a medication that cause that side effect.
The next day Jessie (whom himself I didn’t really have any issues with) told me that he removed one of the meds but that the only way I could go home is if I started on an antipsychotic medication. And that if I didn’t they would kept me longer.
They claimed I had bi-polar. I don’t. And in talking with other patients I found that, that was his favorite go to diagnosis.
If it wasn’t for a very few of the amazing staff I may have lost my mind. Most of the staff rolled their eyes when you had complaints or concerns. They would egg on the patients and act surprised when they got upset. Forced you into a chair, strapped you down and put you in a room by yourself.
You lose your rights when you go into a place like this. Nothing you have to say matters. You’re at their mercy. I have sadly over the many many years been to a few mental hospitals. But this was by far the worst I’ve ever had to stay in.
On top of the appalling way they treat their patients. The floors were nasty, bugs everywhere I even got bit a few times.
I pray for the next person that is forced to travel hours away from their family.
If it wasn’t for a few of their staff that actually cared and listened. I would leave 0 stars.

Do everything in your power to keep your loved one out of this facility! Especially if they are elderly or have any difficulty caring for themselves.

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Waco operates within deeply problematic Texas laws that allow them to take custody of your loved one without your knowledge or consent—and then cut off nearly all communication. You may not be notified, you may not be able to speak with them, and you may not even know if they are safe or receiving basic care.

Even if your loved one enters this facility fully able to care for themselves—able to eat, drink, or manage basic daily tasks on their own—the lack of care and attention here can quickly erode those abilities. The environment is not just neglectful; it can be deeply damaging. There is a very real risk that they will leave in significantly worse physical and mental condition than when they arrived—sometimes with long-term or even permanent consequences!

Within the bounds of current Texas mental health law, your family member can be held against their will and kept from seeing you, their primary support system. The staff will tell you they are following procedure—but those procedures may well result in neglect, isolation, and deep and lifelong trauma for vulnerable patients.

This review is a warning. Know your rights, know the risks, and keep your loved ones safe—especially your elderly loved ones!

DO NOT let your loved one check themself into this place! Our daughter checked herself into Oceans, but when she wanted to check out, they held her against her will. She never actually saw a doctor, other than by teleconference. They only care about the almighty dollar. They prescribed antipsychotics, which her psychiatrist had taken her off. She is now suffering PTSD from her experience.

Do not mistake this facility for a “hospital” as it declares in its name - the care administered was not sufficient. I’m posting on behalf of my loved one who experienced physical neglect under the care of Oceans’ staff during inpatient stay. Never going back.

As Administrator of Waco Healthcare and Rehabilitation, I would like to thank Oceans Behavioral Hospital for its exceptional service. Behavioral health is a huge need in the Waco area, and Oceans meets that need well. Many of our residents have utilized there in-patient and out-patient services. They are a great partner and an asset to the Waco area.

10/10 do not recommend. a handful of MHT's deserve a raise and a better work environment.

as for the others, re-train them or fire them? i have never in my life heard any MHT actually get in screaming matches with a patient. especially those with schitzophrenia, bipolar disorder, and severe depression. MHT's would make fun of some patients as well.

Lucy, Krystal, Karington, Alexis, Victoria, Shana, and Isaac as MHT's were extravagent and very accomodating. Ive been hospitalized before and this is by far the worst ive been in. The therapists are good. Its the MHT's (some) you cannot trust nor feel safe around.

For someone studying Behavioral Sciences, this place is insane. Do not send your loved one here.

Lana the admissions rep is a joke. No comprehension skills, no active listening skills, rude, insensitive, no professionalism, and can't think to save her life. Abigail the operator on the other hand needs a raise immediately.

Worst place I’ve ever been in my life. Not just that the water smells like swewer, but I was there on a bogus warrant. Er staff aren’t trained to differentiate between psych and medical emergencies. I should not have been there. Not only that. I’m diabetic and didn’t get a shot until day 2, and they never gave me long acting so I went into DKA. I KNOW MY BODY, and I told the two charges I thought I was in DKA. They checked my sugar and said I can’t be in DKA at 277… well I can. She denied my medical help until the lab tech amber came in and saved my life. I threw up at least 20 times. THAT IN ITSELF SHOULD BE A SIGN THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG. HUGE THANKS TO AMBER AND ARON. Also they didn’t give me my things back, and I feel after the anion gap. Of 22 IFEEL LIKE the least that can happen is MAIL ME MY STUFF bc i promise you don’t want me pulling up there

My review is SPECIFICALLY for outpatient. I did not know what I was going to be getting into with this.
Betty Jo, Rachel, and Melanie made my experience so great listening to me, helping me learn about myself and healing journey, and making me feel valued and valid in my experiences.
Dominque the intake coordinator went above and beyond in their role and duties! Dominque deserves a raise no joke I will really miss them. I’ll miss everyone honestly so much.
You guys rock!! Thank you for everything!

Upon entering Oceans I had no idea what to expect. I got to my room at 1:30am. Immediately I was met with help and encouragement. I never felt lost or alone at any time there. My roommate was kind and understanding. The staff IS THE BEST. I’ve worked in facilities as a hospice nurse so I’ve only stepped in and out. To truly see the day after day outpouring of love and support from the staff was mind blowing. They truly love the patients. They keep coming back even after the treatment to them by some patients is hard. They love and care and it shows. The therapies, therapists, nurses, doctors, techs, cleaning staff, dietary, administration, and so much more works like a fine tuned clock and get the needs of patients met in a beautiful way. Patience is not easy in these settings but knowing I was cared for and heard made all the difference in the world. I would give 10 stars if I could. I highly, HIGHLY, recommend Oceans Rehabilitation!

It's been 4 years and I still remember the terrible, terrible experience I had there. I admitted myself voluntarily then got told I couldn't leave. The best advice I got was when a nurse told me to fake having a good attitude and smile at all the BS group activities (including literal coloring pages in the adult unit), so they could let me go. The recent reviews I read confirm what I myself experienced

They also messed up my food every single day. I just can't eat pork and they just kept serving it to me. I constantly felt through my whole time there that nobody was taking me seriously about anything.

I stayed up late the first night from stress, then they told me that if I didn't take a sleeping pill the rest of my time there, then I would be considered to be noncompliant and they would keep me in longer. I stg, this also happened with a psych med I insisted I didn't want, right after the Dr. divulged my sister's private medical info to me without me asking.

I will never, ever visit another inpatient psych ward. This place ruined them for me forever

Oceans has taken care of our daughter and she is better from all the work they did together with her. Wonderful people, especially Dominique. Just easy to talk to, get things done and no worries kind of person! But be very careful about the admin side. Corp and local office are not on the same page....ever!
