Two years after graduating from The University of Queensland, Ashley moved to the United States in 1995 to work and travel. The vision and concept of opening a private outpatient practice grew from the frustration felt when working for large corporations and hospitals. Ashley didn't like having to work with more than one patient at a time. He felt that it was cheating the patient out of the more individualized care they deserve. "I knew there had to be a better way to take care of the patient first." In January 2002, the doors of THPT officially opened. The foundation and motto for which Ashley established Terre Haute Physical Therapy can be summed up in a quote by Janet Casey: "Excellence can be attained if you care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
