My appointment time was 9:30 called in 9:35 so wait time was minimal. Staff was friendly and personable. Dr. Gildenberg is top notch friendly personable and knowledgeable . Highly recommend this dermatologist.

I was going to write two separate reviews, each based on a different doctor. I don't see a way to write another review, so I will clarify that I have had good experiences with Dr. Helen D'Sa who I normally see. This review is about Dr. David Altman.
The reason for my visit: I have several tattoos, but one specifically suddenly became extremely raised and itchy the morning of July 16th. I normally see Dr. D'Sa, but in order to squeeze me in, the front desk scheduled me for the next day with Dr. Altman.
The reason for the one star review: Once Dr. Altman comes in to the room, I explain the situation. He barely looks at my tattoo, asks no clarifying questions, and just tells me to never get another tattoo. He seems like he's rushing to get out of the room with me, and multitasking between talking to me about what is happening, and dictating notes to the medical assistant, constantly using a lot of medical jargon that I don't understand because I'm not a doctor which is why I'm there in the first place. He explains a few options of what could be going on, from some systemic issue that he's ordering a chest x-ray for, to I'm suddenly allergic to the ink (he referred to it as "dye") used in this tattoo which could contain ingredients in all black "dye" and therefore I'm risking the same issue with any further tattoos. (I've had this tattoo for 2.5 years at this point btw). I ask him to look at one other concern I had regarding my thyroid, asking for a specific test. He asks a really broad, vague question about if I have any other health issues. I start listing some issues, and he cuts me off saying "but not like kidney or liver issues". If he wanted to know about kidney or liver, why didn't he ask about kidney or liver issues in the first place? He brushes off my concerns and orders the generic test just to appease me, but rejects testing what I asked for. He sent me home with a cream and made some unfunny jokes that seemed like his attempt at bedside manner. I would have preferred actual time, consideration, and respect instead of assumptions, jokes, and rushing me out the door.
Further education for anyone else experiencing this issue with a tattoo: after talking with several people who have lots of tattoos, including a consultation with a professional, experienced tattoo artist, I learned that why this one tattoo reacts while the others don't is that this artist went too deep with the needle. More inexperienced tattooers can easily dig too deep, especially with fine line work. And in those cases, it is common for that tattoo to be reactive to direct sun and changes in the weather (like the Detroit smoke I was exposed to the day before symptoms appeared). There isn't much you can do about it after the fact, because even a laser removal isn't a cure-all. What you can do is err more on the side of experienced artists, protect those tattoos from the sun, and treat any allergies you may have, like keeping benadryl on hand. The cream Dr. Altman prescribed (clobetosol) does seem to be helping bring the swelling down. But overall, I did not appreciate my experience with him and do not recommend him.

They have the best staff! Everyone at the frost desk was extremely helpful and attentive! Dr. Caroline was very thorough in her exam and I did not feel rushed, which surprised me because they were very busy!

The front desk people were sweet but it was very inconvenient that they told me they don’t accept my insurance minutes before my appointment! I was already there waiting so it was quite a waste of my time! I scheduled my appointment at least a week beforehand so it wouldve been nice if they could’ve called me before?!?? And told me that they dont accept my insurance! The service probably wouldve been good but unfortunately i dont think i would even come in the future because that was pretty annoying.

There’s no way all their positive reviews are real. This place is terrible. Good luck getting someone to answer the phone when you’re calling to pay your bill, and more importantly, get the results of your labs. Dr. Altman gives you a very quick glance for a skin screening and it’s not thorough at all. You see more of his assistants than him, which they seem clueless. They cut you off when you’re explaining concerns or anything to them. They pump you in and out as quickly as possible to make money - that’s it. Do your research and find a place that actually cares.
