She hails from Portland Oregon, studied anthropology at the University of Victoria, BC, before obtaining her MD at Rosalind Franklin University of Medical Sciences in Chicago. She completed her internship, residency and fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Gordon Smith at the University of Utah, where she developed a passion for academic medicine and education.
