Dogtopia in Purceville is run by great people that we see weekly. Out Kobe gets so excited to go to Dogtopia. It is a great peace of mind that our dogs have great people that care about them taking care of them.

Wow. From the begining Dogtopia of Purcellville has been incredible to me and my Yogi Bear. I was very nervous about sending my baby to a regular daycare but these guys have eased all of my concerns. The staff here are so incredible. Seriously some of the most caring people, the only type of people I'd want taking care of Yogi Bear while I am at work. They will truly care about you and your baby. I wouldn't send him anywhere else!!!

And they take the BEST pics!

As soon as I pull into a Dogtopia parking space and my Doodle realizes where he is, he loses his mind and pulls me to the front door as if he were a sled dog! He honestly LOVES the place! He is my first-ever dog, and it took me a while to trust anyone taking care of him. Dogtopia maintains clean spaces for the dogs, have an attentive staff, and let you watch your dog's room using an online app, so you can check in on your buddy!

Decent, but not outstanding. If you’re looking for a more caring and less corporate environment, there are better options locally. From my own experience, and from what I’ve heard from others. Upper management tends to swing between being far too hands-on or far too hands-off, making consistency a challenge.
During my time here, it felt like the business hadn’t yet reached its full potential as a professional, well-run operation. I’ve also spoken with others who hold stronger criticisms, including concerns about questionable practices from Tom, the owner.
For me personally, the experience was mixed. Some days were excellent, while others were just average or straight up questionable. I hope in the future this location finds its balance and grows into the professional standard it’s aiming for. For the time I was here reflecting back, that standard was not present.

Just started brining my second dog (a puppy to Dogtopia). Professional and likable staff. Good procedures in place. Always something fun going on for dogs and owners. It's such a huge help to have a safe place to care for your dog during the workday. Thank you to the attentive and affectionate staff!

Puppy "Cora the Explorer" spent her first full day at Dogtopia yesterday and she has been laughably exhausted since. She's so much more manageable and enjoyable when she gets the exercise and socialization she so desperately needs.

Finn loves coming to daycare every day. He starts getting really excited about two blocks away! He goes half days 4 days a week and it’s been a blessing to have a space where he can get his golden retriever energy out! The staff are so friendly and nice. He loves the treats and special photo days. We’ve only had one incident where another dog ate some of his hair while playing but they have been great now about keeping them separated. The only request I would say I have is fix the webcams. They haven’t been working on the app for a week. We love to see our fur babies during the day!

Dogtopia is a wonderful daycare facility for our dog. We started taking our dog there about 1 year ago because it is conveniently located near our work, and their play hours suit our work schedule perfectly. Their staff is very friendly and always willing to accommodate their customers in any way that they can. We had been using Ridgeside K9 in Winchester as they are conveniently located near our home. Unfortunately, that facility has made it abundantly clear that they are not willing to work with their longtime customers, and since they don't have cameras where we can look in on the dogs playing, we have no idea how the dogs are being treated, or if they're even getting good playtime. I highly recommend Dogtopia for anyone needing a daycare facility that will genuinely play with your dogs and wear them out so they sleep well. Below is a photo of our dog Rupert on the way home after only 1/2 day.

Updated Review: A Disappointing Experience with Tom, the Owner of Dogtopia

After speaking with a veterinarian, I was told that a dog injuring another dog so severely that it required vet care is not just “dogs being dogs,” contrary to what Tom, the owner of Dogtopia, seemed to believe. On top of that, our second dog was just diagnosed with kennel cough, likely contracted from Dogtopia, which sent out an email confirming an outbreak.

Original Experience: Poor Handling by Tom, the Owner

During our dog’s stay at Dogtopia, our medium-sized senior dog was bitten multiple times by a Mastiff, requiring a vet visit. While the staff handled the immediate situation well, Tom’s response as the owner was unacceptable.
• No Apology, No Concern, No Follow-Up: Tom never apologized, showed concern, or even bothered to call and check in. This lack of basic decency was frustrating, to say the least.
• The Aggressive Dog Remained in Open Play: According to a staff member I spoke with, the Mastiff that injured our dog remained at Dogtopia for several more days, still in open play with other dogs—despite already causing harm.
• Dogtopia’s Liability Policy Seems Meaningless: The pet parent agreement clearly states:
“I am solely responsible for any harm, including to any other dog(s)… caused by my dog(s) while my dog(s) is/are attending Dogtopia of Purcellville.”
Both I and an attorney friend interpreted this as meaning that the owner of the Mastiff should be responsible for our vet bill. But apparently, Tom operates under his own interpretation.

When my wife asked for the Mastiff owner’s contact information to discuss covering the vet bill, Tom refused—which is understandable for privacy reasons. However, he also refused to pass along our contact information or the vet bill despite our permission. He wouldn’t even offer to act as an intermediary. Instead, he made it clear Dogtopia would not assist in holding the responsible owner accountable.
• Lack of Transparency: He also refused to share a copy of the video footage, only allowing me to view it in person. I took the time to drive over after work, watched it three times, and ultimately decided to drop the issue since the vet bill was relatively low ($261). However, it raised serious questions—if I hadn’t dropped it, how exactly does Dogtopia enforce liability when they refuse to facilitate even basic communication? Dogtopia certainly didn’t offer to cover the cost or deduct it from our boarding bill.

When I confronted Tom about these concerns, he had no real answers. His response made it clear that the liability clause is applied however it suits him. His dismissiveness became even more concerning when he remarked, “I’ve dealt with many lawyers.” This could have meant he was discouraging legal action—or that situations like this happen frequently, forcing people to get a lawyer. To top it off, he actually walked away from me while I was voicing my concerns.

The One Bright Spot: The Staff

The staff, including Patrick, were fantastic. They called us immediately when the incident happened, were apologetic, made it clear our dog was not the aggressor, and recommended vet care. They also handled the dogs appropriately and were always friendly during interactions.

This review is not about the staff—it’s about Tom, the owner, and how poorly he handled a serious situation. His lack of accountability, refusal to assist in resolving the issue, and dismissive attitude make it clear that he prioritizes avoiding responsibility over the well-being of the dogs in his care. I cannot recommend Dogtopia of Purcellville under his management.

Our little girl absolutely loves going here! The facility is really clean, the staff and owners are amazing and Elsa always comes home exhausted after a day of lots of mental stimulation and physical play with her furry friends. She has been going here since we adopted her 18 months ago. We trust them with our girl and would not take her anywhere else.
