Was not a fan of the two classes I attended the instructor seemed a bit standoff ish giving short answers with seemingly little to no patience. Also very weird atmosphere The girls there seemed all very tight knit, which was very cool! The rules were very interesting. I’ve trained at tons of Brazilian jiu-jitsu gyms around the country and the world. Very weird to see that you can only wear certain gi’s The rules for rolling just didn’t seem to lineup with a lot of modern age jiu-jitsu. Got told several times that I couldn’t do certain submissions or moves that were perfectly legal things to do even as a white belt. The people I rolled with were great. The instructor just kept coming over and almost yelling at me Because of things that I just did not know because it was my first time at the school. After the first round of rolling, he made me go and read the rules on the wall. Which I found so weird. The self-defense stuff was not a fan of seemed very Questionable I’m an instructor in Muay Thai and kickboxing I’ve done a whole bunch of self-defense stuff Including some of the Gracie things It seemed as though when the instructor was teaching it, he didn’t quite know What he was doing. I have instructors that won’t do it for a year and they still know it So it just seemed like a red flag to me. The weirdest part was afterwards when he asked me will I be joining and I said I don’t really know right now. I’m still looking around before I could even finish my sentence. He kind of looked away and dismiss me. Again, very weird behavior

Went for my first time tonight. I was nervous to go, but felt so welcomed by the other women in the class and quickly felt at home. My husband and kids go as well and they love it. This is such a great place for anyone to learn and Lou is an amazing teacher for both newbies and people more experienced. I’ll definitely be going back!

I simply love this place!! It’s one of the best places to train and the kids class is awesome!! Just don’t understand why someone wrote such a bad review about the teacher. Lou vintaloro is a such great professor and person, he teaches the kids very well and help the kids to gain experience and discipline. I had friends here, and their kids have being training here for so long and I never heard anything bad. If you don’t want you kid to learn discipline and want him to grow up spoiled , then keep coddling at home.

For context, I joined performance about 6 months ago.
Since joining, I've found the level of instruction very high. Technical, efficient jiu-jitsu is how I'd describe it. It's a great place for working professionals and their kids. As an adult, you can roll as hard as you want without running into a non-stop onslaught of competition guys. Louis and Laya(?) do a great job managing the kids classes. Imagine getting 40 kids wrestling on the ground in a choreographed way. Challenging, one might say. So, yeah, 'a great place if you're looking for a welcoming place, that's reasonably paced and technique is a priority,

Almost 2 year review update. Started practicing Jiu Jitsu here in 2024 and I can't imagine being without it. Between the community on the mats and the mental/physical gains from practicing this sport, it has literally changed my life and confidence - especially as a woman (a short one). Professor Lou as well as other teachers like Will Guerrero are amazing, attentive and they care about your progress. They take their jobs seriously, but there's always some jokes and smiles too. I can positively say I have always left the mats feeling better than when I came in. Love this place, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their or their kids' confidence/mental fortitude/discipline. And we also have a huge/growing women's group! Best community ever. OSS

I have been training at Performance for about 4+ years. Professor Louis is an excellent instructor. He devotes a significant amount of time teaching fundamentals. Great environment. Everyone is very supportive and helpful. Best workout you will ever do. Highly recommend to anyone regardless of age.

He plays favorites. If you're a bigger guy or a good looking girl he fast tracks you through your promotions. I won't come back to a school that promotes you like that.

Hands down one of the greatest places to be.
Why?
1) Lou is an amazing instructor in Jiu Jitsu. Not only did he train directly under Royler Gracie, but his ability to teach his intrinsic knowledge from practicing for so long is incredible. What he does by feel and habit he is able to pull out step by step and teach us all. That’s really hard to do. In addition his teaching is the right amount of balance between productivity and fun. He can get super serious when he wants to make sure you are learning the move correctly, but at the same time create an environment where it doesn’t need to be too serious and will throw in some jokes, song and movie references. I am grateful to have found possibly the best school & instructor with the right atmosphere to learn effectively.
2) the environment with the other students and instructors cultivate a place where everyone can learn and enjoy their time, whether new or old. It’s very diverse from all walks of life, ages, ethnicities, careers, and yet no ego problems and no drama which is beautiful to have a place like that. Sometimes after rolling you will see people sit against the wall conversing. Great community starter.
3) there are multiple high belts to learn from with a spirit willing to teach.
4) the gym itself is clean! People sweat all the time in there but it doesn't smell like it! Shout out Owen for cleaning all the time
5) women strong! I’ve heard of other gyms not having many females we have at least 10+ who come consistently. And have our own group chat should you be shy at first.
There’s probably many more reasons why Performance is great but come check it out for yourself! You won’t regret it! Whether self defense, exercise, or community this place is for you!

I've been training at Performance BJJ for about 8 months now, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best BJJ schools in the area. Coach Lou is incredibly detailed with his techniques and always takes the time to guide you through mastering each position and submission. For beginners, the white belt fundamentals classes are perfect—they break down the basics in a way that’s easy to follow and not overwhelming. On top of that, the sense of community here is amazing. Everyone is friendly, supportive, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to start or level up their BJJ journey!

5 stars for overall experience at Performance. Not only is the instruction from Prof. Lou great but all the help the other practitioners give to help you out along the way is impressive and motivating. The knowledge and friendships I have built in my time has been incredible and would recommend stepping foot onto the mats. My advice would be to expect to get returns on the amount of effort and attitude you are willing to put into the hobby.
