He then entered New York University School of Medicine and graduated in 1990. Dr. Roth's surgical training consisted of a five year general surgery residency at NYU Medical Center. That was followed by a two-year plastic surgery residency at the internationally renowned Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University Medical Center, under the direction of Dr. Joseph G. McCarthy. Dr. Roth received broad training in all types of reconstructive plastic surgery for trauma, burns, birth defects, post cancer defects and cosmetic surgery. He had a total of nine years of post-medical school surgical and plastic surgical residency training.In addition, Dr. Roth trained at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York City where he worked with many of the most well-known aesthetic plastic surgeons including Dr. Aston and Dr. Baker. Dr. Roth was selected for the Fellowship in Microvascular Surgery at New York University Medical Center/ Bellevue Hospital where he honed his expertise in complex microvascular tissue transfers in major trauma cases and post-cancer surgery, including TRAM flap and DIEP Flap reconstruction for breast cancer.
