If you're looking for a more low key place to spend a few days, then Sir Sam's is the place to go. Last year we stayed at Taboo in Bracebridge. That's a nice resort, but more posh and commercial. Sir Sam's is much smaller and quieter, with a more rustic feel, and no kids allowed.

Our room was comfortable, with a great view of the lake. Breakfast and dinner are included with the rate. The food was delicious - four courses for dinner. You do have a choice of entrees, appetizers and dessert.

Non motorized boats are available for free, and water skiing is also included in the rate. A nice touch is the twice daily pontoon boat ride around the lake. On the weekends, a fire is lit at the communal pit - great opportunity to mingle.

The inn also prides itself on its Waterspa. It's a very large indoor pool kept to at least 90 degrees. There are several areas throughout the pool offering different types of jets to massage your body. In the evening, there is a projector displaying a light show and soft music to sooth you. A wonderful experience.

Had the weather cooperated I'd probably give a higher rating. But when it rained most of the time, it does put a damper on your mood!

Sir Sam's is a year round resort that offers downhill skiing in the winter. While the elevation is not high, the great food and relaxing setting probably make up for what it lacks in challenging slopes.
