When everyone first joins taekwondo, their first goal is to get their black belt and learn a few skills on the way, but it’s not just about learning the form and “getting” the belt. What it means to earn a black is to have an understanding and performance of each of the belts' concepts and meanings because it’s part of the martial art, taekwondo. At USTA they connect, help, and guide each student through their own black belt path recognizing each student’s unique talents. Understanding and performing each belt concept means to apply the definition in and out of the academy. For example, the white belt and little ninja’s one is focus and punctuality. They can easily apply this in class by getting there on time and paying attention in class to the instructor and lessons they are teaching. One character building activity that the dojo provides to all students under six-teen is a weekly chores chart. This is a piece of paper with different simple activities that the students can do inside and outside the house. These chores are simple life lessons that all kids should be responsible for on a daily basis such as homework, helping with dishes, and making your bed. For me personally this motivated me to complete these daily activities. Not only did I enjoy my testing but I felt like I earned the belt and title of being a black belt. Although my personal journey took a lot of effort and consistency it is something I am very proud of and glad to have done in my life. Thank you USTA for helping me learn what it means to earn a black belt. SMK.

Earning a black belt at USTA means so much more than just getting a belt or knowing how to do martial arts moves. It represents years of hard work, practice, and dedication. From the very first day of training, I learned that becoming a black belt is not something that happens overnight. It takes patience, effort, and the ability to keep trying even when things feel difficult. There were times when I wanted to give up, but USTA taught me to keep going and never quit. A black belt is a symbol of respect, confidence, and responsibility. It shows that I have grown not only in my skills, but also in my mindset. I have learned self-control, focus, and how to respect others inside and outside of class. At USTA, I discovered that martial arts is not just about fighting or learning techniques, but about becoming a better person and living with discipline. Earning a black belt also means being a role model. I now have the responsibility to set an example for other students, especially those who are just starting. It shows me that I have reached one big goal, but also that I have to keep improving myself. A black belt is not the end of the journey, but the beginning of a new chapter where I push myself to grow even more. It proves that hard work really pays off and that I can accomplish big things if I stay dedicated. To me, being part of USTA feels like being part of a family, where everyone helps and supports each other. I am proud of what I have achieved and thankful for the lessons that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
