He is an internal medicine physician and pharmacoepidemiologist with expertise in quantitative methods for large-scale real-world data and evidence generation, particularly in drug safety and effectiveness. His externally funded research focuses on evaluating medication use and cardiometabolic disease among adults living with HIV. He applies rigorous epidemiologic and causal inference methods to generate clinically meaningful evidence that informs prescribing decisions and improves outcomes in chronic diseases. Dr. Hwang received MD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and MSc in epidemiology from the University of Western Ontario. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a clinical research fellowship in general internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
