I had a great experience during my trial class. The instructor, Kenneth, was very welcoming and professional. He personally introduced me to the other students in the fundamentals class, which was nice. Explanation of the techniques was excellent and the drilling/partner work was just the right level of intensity for a fundamentals class; challenging but not overwhelming. I like that there were two black belts in the class as well. They did what good black belts are supposed to do; let the beginners work and figure things out, while providing helpful insights when appropriate, and challenging us when appropriate. It was great working with them. All the other students were cool too. I love that the class included hip throws and that they incorporate a good amount of judo, which makes sense considering the head instructor, Brian Glick's, background. The facility is beautiful and very clean. It seems like a great place for both beginners and experienced practitioners, which is rare in my experience.

Brian is easily one of the best communicators in all of jiu jitsu as well as an incredible practitioner. The space is immaculate has a full size bathroom with clean showers is safe and accommodating I would recommend anyone interested in jiujitsu both experienced and new to try this academy out.

I dropped in twice this week while visiting NYC. I wanted to meet Brian and check out the new facility.
I was met by Kenneth who, after inquiring on their website, contacted me ahead of time and made sure I had everything. He was thorough and made my visits very easy.
The facility is new and meticulously cleaned including the showers and changing area.
In both classes, we followed a structure of stand up technique/concepts with room to play around with the position, a grounded technique, positional sparring with constraints and intentions then, open rolling. At the end of Brian’s class he had an open Q&A which was helpful. The instructon is world class and there are many athletes visiting from neighbouring gyms.
5fifty5 Jiu Jitsu was a great example of a well thought out and organized gym and Brian’s devotion can be found through his instructors, students and the details of the gym.
Looking forward to visiting again!

In the world of bjj gyms, 555 jiu-jitsu is a rare combination of great high-level instruction, friendly people, and modern and clean facilities.
There's a big emphasis on safety and I can feel that a lot of thought has been put into the course structure and pedagogy, which makes this a great place for beginners as well. A lot of individual attention is given to students regardless of experience level and the gym is at a size where you get to know all of the instructors and other students pretty well.
Regardless of your goals - whether it's fitness or competing or just trying something new I would definitely recommend giving 555 jiu-jitsu a shot!

I've been around Jiu-Jitsu almost 10 years now, it has been my career for the last 6-7 years and Brian Glick is honestly one of my favorite people in this sport. The gym atmosphere is so easy-going but when it's time to actually train everyone gives their best effort.
If you are looking for a place to build community, learn REAL JJ, and become a better version of yourself this is the place.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience since joining 555 Jiu-Jitsu. I have trained bjj on and off for the past 10 years and I can safely say that this place truly feels like where I am supposed to be.
I like my training partners and feel like everyone walks onto the mat with respect and are ready to learn. The main instructor, Brian Glick, is a renowned Danaher bjj black belt and high level grappler who is known for his breakdowns of different moves and techniques. The entire staff are GREAT - especially Sonia and Kenneth. The space is top of the line, the mats are always clean and overall, it's a positive environment. Plus they also have great classes for kids. I signed my kids up and they love it.
Highly Recommend!

I've been training jiu jitsu for well over a decade and I can't emphasize enough how excellent the training is at 555 Jiu Jitsu. Professor Glick and the rest of the staff are tremendous practitioners who explain techniques effectively, in great detail, and with safety in mind. The other students I train with (all different ages, sizes, and athletic backgrounds) there are all great people and I look forward to training and working with them every day. Easily one of the best schools around!

I would highly recommend and encourage this place, although its location is new, most of us have been training together for a long time.
In my 15th year of training with this crew and the head instructor, Brian Glick, we have shared personal and physical growth over the years. As a teacher, I feel the instructors have a good pedagogical method in their instruction, there is continuity and an emphasis on discipline which is crucial for learning.
I just started bringing my 6 yr old to train, she loves the environment and feels completely comfortable training with bigger kids.

This dojo has well earned it's highly positive recommendations.
Jiu Jitsu is a highly interactive martial art, based totally in your ability to trust your partner/teacher. If you are not secure in the fact that your partner/teacher can and will keep you even relatively safe from harm, it is highly unlikely that you'll have any desire to participate in it - unless you're a daredevil. I know I'm not.
I've come to know many people that have quit or stayed away from jiu jitsu for exactly this reason. I have one piece of advice for them, and anyone reading who feels apprehensive about training; trust Brandon.
This is not an instance where I'm telling you to blindly trust in a teacher you have not met. I have trained with many different individuals in this martial art, both new and experienced, and I have yet to meet a single one that has matched not only Brandon's capacity, but his genuine desire, to honestly gain your trust. This is manifest in his constant involvement in and concern for your well-being in the dojo; his wealth of knowledge and understanding - not only regarding martial arts, but life itself - which he gives up freely; his attentiveness; his kindness; and his never-ending pursuit of greatness and improvement in himself. And he improves because he understands that the better he is, the better he can serve YOU.
You'll know who Brandon is the moment you step through the front door because the qualities of his that I've mentioned, which do not describe the entirety of his character, exude at nearly all times. Or simply because he's polite enough to greet you. I guess you'll have to step through that door to find out.

555 Jiu Jitsu is a special place.
I've had the privilege to train and learn under Professor Glick. Not only is he an incredible BJJ practitioner -- he might be an even better instructor. Technical skills and breadth/depth of knowledge are a given -- what I find really sets him apart is his ability to tailor his teaching on-the-spot to each student, regardless of experience. He has a gift for pinpointing the exact details needed in any given situation and communicating them concisely in a way that just clicks.
If you're looking for a place to train in the NYC/Brooklyn area, I highly recommend 555 Jiu Jitsu. The environment is very welcoming and respectful. Instruction is top-notch. Coaching staff are friendly and highly-skilled. Facilities are clean and well-kept. Training is high quality -- technical, safe, and controlled. Every session feels thoughtfully structured and, most importantly, fun.

If you’re looking for a truly legit Jiu Jitsu school in NYC, 555 Jiu Jitsu is the spot. As a purple belt, I’ve trained at enough places to know the difference between an average gym and a great one — and this place is great.
The school is run by high-level, authentic instructors, not just people cashing in on the Jiu Jitsu wave. And I have to highlight one absolute gem of an instructor: Coach Brandon. His attention to detail, the way he breaks down technique, and the genuine care he puts into helping every student grow is next-level. You can feel his passion on the mats, and it makes training here something you actually look forward to.
Whether you’re brand new or experienced, you’re going to learn, improve, and feel supported. Check out 555 Jiu Jitsu — you won’t regret it.

I drive from North Jersey multiple times a week to train at 555 Jiu Jitsu. I do this mainly to learn & train with my teacher Professor Brian Glick, his staff, and students that help me grow & evolve as an instructor, jiu jitsu school owner, and practitioner of the grappling arts. In my 5 years as a student of Professor Glick I have witnessed many of his students that were once brand new to jiu jitsu acquire foundational skills that have served them very well on the path to becoming more masterful. The training is systematic, intelligent, & safe. Being a smaller, older practitioner running my own school in NJ, it is important that the people I train under and with care about my safety & well being.
I believe it’s important to highlight that Professor Glick’s teacher is widely considered one of, if not the best jiu jitsu teacher in the world. He himself is considered one of the best teachers in the world. This is not hyperbole… I drive from NJ to Brooklyn 3 times a week to train at 555, if you live close by or even remotely close consider yourself lucky. Got to the website now and sign up for 555’s Jiu-Jitsu’s intro offer. Your first step on a journey that will yield long lasting benefits in your ability to defend yourself, stay in shape, reduce stress and connect with a likeminded community.
