Dr. Abdelmalik is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in neurology and neurocritical care and certified by the American Heart Association telehealth stroke. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Abdelmalik was an assistant professor of neurology at the State University of New York, University at Buffalo, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biological Sciences and a neurointensivist at Kaleida Health, Buffalo General Medical Center. He also served as a teleneurology and telestroke consultant for Adjacent Health, located in Norfolk, Virgina. After earning his Ph.D. in neurophysiology/neuropharmacology at the University of Toronto, Dr. Abdelmalik earned his medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. His clinical training includes an internal medicine internship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, a neurology residency at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience and a neurocritical care fellowship at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Abdelmalik has published his research in medical journals and books and presented to his peers at scientific symposiums. He is an editorial board member for several medical publications and a member of numerous professional societies. Dr. Abdelmalik is committed to supporting patients and their families through primary brain injury, including hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, trauma, seizures and metabolic assaults. He employs a multidisciplinary treatment approach that focuses on immediate medical stabilization, prevention of secondary injury, psychological support and rehabilitation.
